This item works great on every knife I own.
It's been used on a machete, bowie knife, hunting knife, a cosplay sword, and my Gerber Ridge pocket knife *very small knife*. It worked perfectly on everything. All my knives are sharp enough to cut through anything smoothly. I love it and it's a fabulous buy for anyone who needs to sharpen a knife.

I've tried other sharpeners like this and they do not compare..There's that mini one with the 2 stage carbide and ceramic..Adding the ceramic to get an even better edge..IT DULLS IT..and the carbide doesn't sharpen well at all..It's the one with the diamond dusted rod for sharpening serrated blades(that part works pretty well though).
Ive tried more than a few of these types and these just blow the others out of the water..I just purchased another to throw in a drawer so I'll have it as a spare replacement
If you don't have the time for stones or are not good with them..this will give you a very good edge. Even will do a decent job at re profiling older blades.
Will get most blades sharp enough to shave the hair off your arm smoothly..I've used it with my Kershaw, K-bar, and Gerber..Also put a heck of a blade on my Swiss army knife little 1 3/4" blade
:)
I do not know of anything close to this price range that does a job as well as this..

I have a lot of knives and a lot of sharpening tools: water stones, oil stones, diamond bench stones, sharpening jigs, ceramic steels, whiz bang sharpeners and probably something from an infomercial. So I didn't have much of an expectation for this gadget. It's ten bucks , plastic and not very cool.
Was I ever wrong! In about ten seconds you can put a very respectable edge on just about any knife. If you are into macho, razor-sharp stropping and honing, this will save a lot of front end time. If you just want your knife to be pretty darn sharp without a lot of time and energy, buy this gizmo.

What can I say, at first i was a little disappointed with this device. But after a little practice, what can I say, it works, and works great! it's not a professional sharpener, but why would you ever need a professional sharpener? a few quick strokes once mastered and you have a very sharp knife.

I originally purchased one of these in camo at a camping resort - and once I really started to use it - found that it did a superior job of getting all of my knives and other implements to a keen edge.
one of the reasons I purchased several from Amazon was that they offered a great price (the one purchased at the resort was over twice as much - oh well, live and learn) as well as other incentives (free shipping) - I purchased several more in assorted colors for friends for the holidays -
the sharpeners even work on serrated knives - I had a Spyderco serrated knife that had lost its edge several years ago and once I used the Accu Sharp on it, reacquired a sharp edge. It did required some touch up with a tri-angle ceramic sharpener (which I recommend with all knives after being sharpened by with the Accu Sharp) but the knife is now as good as new. I also used the Accu Sharp on serrated steak knives which are very sharp now.
For the price, purchasing the Accu Sharp was a great buy and a very useful kitchen and sharpening tool.

It works as expected and shows no sign of wear, even though I've used it thoroughly throughout the year.

I think this is the same one I purchased from Amazon last summer, only in a different color. I love it. I always purchase extras as gifts to friends and family members because I'm so sold on it. The simplicity of the design is 5-star and the inexpensive cost is the topper. Last year when I purchased my first Accu Sharp 001 Knife Sharpener with replacement blades, I threw out TWO electric knife sharpeners which were outdated, over-the-hill, useless and took up too much room in my kitchen. Got some of those old dull knives from your mother or grandmother? Use this baby and you can field dress animals in the wild with your knives. I use these for all my Henckels and some of my mother's old knives as well.
3-24-12: This is still our go to knife sharpener. I have two still in current use, one of which was bought the year previous to this one. I use on my Henckels with no problems, only solutions.

I can use a stone and get a razor sharp edge but I am really not patient enough to do that on all my blades. Use the common sense you would when using a stone. You do not just saw the blade back and forth on a stone and expect to get a finished edge. I am guessing that most the bad reviews got defective units. 10 percent is not unusual on the cheap, mass produced, no QC items, otherwise I just don't get it. If Accusharps QC is better than I give it credit for, than guess what... your doing it wrong.
This Accusharp works great. A truly dull blade will take more time and more than just a couple of swipes to restore and you are going to remove metal even on a stone. To those folks who say this will leave nicks and gouges, your doing it wrong and have less patience than I do. Try light more even pressure and read the instructions. If your pressing down hard enough to shred the guard, you are doing it wrong and using way to much pressure. If the guard is hitting the edge at 90 degrees its a manufacturing defect look at the V shape inside the sharpener it should be straight and clean with no nicks.
We use a Mora 8.1 inch multipurpose knife as the main Kitchen knife and even with the mora rep for steel it still needs constant attention to keep the razor sharp edge that we all love. Not only is the angle on this just about about a perfect 22 degree match to the scandi grind, just using it with a very light touch 2 or 3 passes and it remains arm hair shaving sharp. Enough to take on the toughest turnip. This sharpener is faster than a stone but as I said it still needs a little common sense to use it. I'm sure it can be a blessing to those who just need a sharp knife and don't have the time or skills to use a stone.

If you're a die hard knife sharpener, stick to your stones. If you want something that'll give you a servicable edge quickly and easily, with the knowledge that more of your blade's steel will be sheared off as an expense, this would be something to have around.
I sharpened my kitchen knives with this thing in about 10 minutes. It took out a few nicks and scratches I'd been meaning to deal with, and gave each knife a working edge. My wife was happy. I was a little unhappy to see just how much metal was shaved off in order to find the new blade angle, but it will supposedly not take as much off for future touch-ups. I'll update my rating to 3-4 stars if it keeps taking my knives apart...
They make a pocket version (pocket pal or something like that) that is great for a hunting or camping kit. Very light.

I have a full metal santoku knife which looks pretty cool, but was pretty useless for anything because of how dull it had become with time. I was skeptical about the product, but for ten bucks why not?
After getting the package I grabbed my knife and stroked it several times against the sharpener (while doing so, metal bits might come off flying so be sure to do it on a table and of course, don't let kids use it. Despite the plastic guard I don't feel very safe about it). Now my knife was duller than before so I re read the packaging, which states it might take a while before any results. After some more minutes of sharpening I tried it again on a grapefruit, I almost cut my cutting board in a half!
Something they don't warn you about: be careful and patient. My knife has some scratches because I was getting impatient and started rubbing it like a madman. Be careful if you have expensive or fancy-looking knives!! Always do it as the instructions say.
Pros:
-Cheapo
-Comes in red which is a nice change from all the boring white or black accessories
-Plastic handle so you avoid getting cut while sharpening knives
Cons
-The package says it might take some to see results. My knife took about 5 minutes of stroking
-Align the sharpener at all times or you'll scratch your fancy knife! Not exactly a con but nobody tells you that
