UPDATE 08/21/16 - This light is still working fine, but skip the HP1, it didn't last me more than a few months.
Bought this along with the HP1 for under $20 for both. You MUST understand what you're buying when you buy this light... It's a single AAA light that's under $10. This is important because people seem to judge this light based on other $30 or $40 CR123 battery lights they carry. The light is NOT made to light up a room, it will not be my go-to light in a power outage. It would work in this situation but be prepared to be tripping over things. It throws a very crisp clear beam with a defined inspection pattern. Think of the bat signal. It shines a straight narrow beam into the sky with the batman symbol inside on a crisp, defined circle of light. This means that there is not a lot of spilling light, if the light is shining on a wall in front of you, you can't see the floor at your feet. This is great for small jobs ie: checking the oil in your car or messing with wires behind your computer or home entertainment system. It's an awesome light, don't get me wrong. But it serves a specific purpose, and those who purchase it without understanding that will be disappointed. I bought it to replace my little maglite solitaire light which doesn't compare to this little torch.

-it produces an amazingly flat circle of light, no center "hot spot"
-feels very well constructed
-runs on one AAA battery, not no weird CR2016 or LR44 battery
-its VERY BRIGHT for its size @ 57 lumens, a comparable single AAA battery LED MagLite that only produces 37 lumens
-roughly about the size of a chapstick, but longer by 1.5 inches, yet does not feel bulky at all.
-[UPDATE apr.28.2013] accidentally tossed it in the wash with a pair of shorts. still works like nothing happened! AMAZEBALLS!! :D
best flashlight in its size category.

Why you should buy the Coast G19:
• Construction: Very well made, durable, and weather resistant. Not waterproof, but damn close.
• Size: The width of a chapstick container, only 3.5 cm longer. You won't know it's there.
• Brightness: 54 lumen for such a small package is hard to beat.
• Price: Much more inexpensive than similar flashlights, and more powerful, too.
• Design: Very elegant, but also functional. Nice texturing, no angles, sharp edges etc.
• Convenience: Just a single AAA battery. Very cheap and easy to find.
Why you should not buy the Coast G19:
• Purpose built: Powerful enough to light up objects close-up without blinding you. Not for signaling over a distance, lighting up a room, or blinding an attacker.
• No power options: No low/high modes. No slide focus. It is either on or off at 54 lumens.
• Not a keychain flashlight. It is too long for that, and does not have a key-ring hole. Nor a lanyard loop.
Final Thoughts:
This is not the light you need for power outages. It could work, if it was all you had, but it is not its purpose. It is just bright enough to allow you to work up-close with small objects without blinding you. Lighting up a computer case, closet, car trunk etc. It is very well made, convenient, uses a common battery, and of negligible bulk and weight. Highly recommended, as long as you need an inspection light.
If you need something brighter, try the Coast HP1. It is also a great value of money.

I'm a mechanic and flashlight junkie. I was looking for a simple, bright, no nonsense light i could clip in my front pocket of my Dickies work shirts. They have a slot for pens in the pocket and this light fits in it. The only thing i'm not crazy about is it's hard edge on the light. Theres zero spill on the beam so you're basically looking at a light circle. For my uses (mechanic/engine inspections) this light is perfect. It also uses AAA batteries unlike my other Fenix lights that use 123 batteries that cost a ton of money each. I've been using this light for a few weeks everyday and it's still bright as the day i got it. I'm very happy with it. Even use it walking the dog at night and it's plenty bright for that too! I'm going to buy more of these for gifts and to keep in the truck!

I am using it as EDC (Every-Day-Carry) combined with Leatherman Wave in nylon sheath. It fits it perfectly,
I usually use it at work but recently I took it for camping and I used it at night. It is bright enough to lighten everything in front of you.
My friend had old maglite 3 D-cell with standard bulb in it and... my small flashlight was brighter and more useful.
I strongly recommend this flashlight.

Great product! The beam is unique and lights the target area very well. I purchased this because I work in EMS and use this on every overnight shift. I keep it in my uniform shirt chest pocket next to my pen...that's how small this is! I sometimes forget it's there. It doesn't light up the entire area but it's perfect for my purposes. Another great feature I like is that it takes AAA batteries. I've had this light for several months now and haven't changed the batteries yet. Several of my coworkers now have bought this product because they liked it so much. I highly recommend.

I am an EMT and I am currently in paramedic school. I know this is supposed to be an inspection light but finding a quality pen light for checking pupil reaction is a pain! Most pen lights never work when you need them and run out of battery or get dim. This thing is a champ, its the perfect size and is really bright all the time. I will even use it as my flashlight in a dark house or on an unlit roadside. The only thing I wish it could have is a pupil sizing char on the side but I'm pretty good at guessing that anyway. I have nothing bad to say, this thing rocks!

Perfectly pocket sized, proud (meaning protruding) end cap button, super bright with no hot spots/dim areas (a solid, bright, defined circle), nice and sturdy and all from ONE AAA BATTERY! Literally everything I wanted in an everyday carry flashlight. No more of those stupid ABC3 or whatever batteries that cost $30/ea. and last about 15 seconds. Can't recommend it enough, especially if you work in the bar industry, or just find yourself pulling out your phone to light things up a lot.

This is a very good flashlight for smaller tasks or smaller spaces. This light is NOT designed to light up an entire room, but to light a small area for inspection purposes. The LED light is very bright for its size, at 54 Lumens. It runs off a single AAA battery, which is very convenient.
The beam of light emitted is a very crisp, solid, evenly lit circle of light. This flashlight is very small and compact, easily carried around in your pocket everyday without even realizing its there. I carry this light with me eveywhere, especially at work. It works great for looking into a gas tank to see how much fuel is left or checking oil levels and other such jobs. It works very well for inspecting wiring as well.
I cant say enough about how durable this light is. I have carried this light with me everywhere for nearly 3 years now and have used it heavily and it still works like it did brand new. The clip broke off, but I never used the clip anyways so no big deal. I also discovered that you can remove the whole clip itself if you would prefer not to use it. I have attached a photo of my G19 to show how much it gets used, and still functions amazingly. A lot of the surface is now silver as the finish has worn off from heavy usage.
I will no doubt be buying another one of these lights if anything ever happens with the one I currently have. Coast makes some of the best lights I have ever used. I will be a lifetime customer of Coast!

I actually dont carry this flashlight, i carry a very expensive surefire. That being said, everyone i know carries one of these befacue i got it for them as a gift. It's a bright enough, robust enough task light and at the price you won't be uspet if you misplace it.
People sometimes ask me why i carry a flashlight all the time. It's so i can see in the dark. It's like having superpowers. Without a flashlight, you're essentially useless for half the day.
