Great drill that really accomplishes anything I throw at it. I've been able to easily screw in 3" construction screws into dry fir. Great for flooring applications and really nice slow speed to make sure you're starting steady.

The two batteries that come with this kit are great. I've been able to go a full day without swapping. The only time I need to swap more often is if I'm using a 1" wood drill bit going through very dry fir beams/joists. I've been able to use an 18" long 1" wood drill bit without so much as a slowdown. Very impressive for a drill this size. It's my general use drill that I use for pretty much anything.

It is impossible to beat the deal on this cordless drill, but be aware that this is Dewalt's entry level drill. It comes with their smaller batteries (1700mAh) compared to the larger capacity XRP batteries (2400mAh). So when people say that replacement batteries are $60 each they are referring to the larger XRP batteries. The batteries that this drill comes with are not even sold separately, or if they are not at any stores that I have seen. It also has a limited speed compared to their larger and heavier XRP drill which also has the hammerdrill capability for drilling into masonry and hard material.

It has treated me well for household jobs and carpentry jobs around the house, but it has its limits. Example: I wanted to get rid of a stump in the yard and the directions for the "stump out" required drilling 10" deep by 1/2" wide holes. The drill could not handle it. The motor started smoking. To be fair I knew this was asking a lot.

The reason I still give it 5 starts is that it finished the job with a lot of coaxing and still works despite melting something internally. Solid drill but if you want to do some heavy drilling then upgrade to the XRP model.

I purchased this item for only $99 at HD. This unit includes 2 Ni-cad batteries. Why get these instead of the newer Lithium-ion? Research on the web shows that Lithium-ion batteries have a shelf life between 2-3 years. So, unlike Ni-cads, EVEN IF YOU DON'T USE THEM, they will degrade and need replacing in a couple of years. How long have they been sitting on the shelf before you buy them is anyone's guess but that is part of the battery's shelf life. Then when you do go buy new ones they cost as much as the kit did to begin with.

Perhaps if you are a professional that uses the drill all day, day after day you will be ready for a new kit every couple of years. But for the average Joe who might not use the drill for 3-4 months, you are losing battery life regardless.

Do your wallet a favor and stick with Ni-cads until the technology improves. This is an excellent drill with plenty of power. Also, Ni-cads continue to work in cold weather unlike Lithium-ions that won't.

There is a reason why I only buy dewalt. They practically gave this drill set away. A must have for any household. great for standard projects. Bump up to the impact models if your gonna build a barn.

Great to finally have a quality drill and driver kit. This comes with an extra battery, but as of yet I have not used it since the initial battery holds its charge so well. The price was fantastic as well, couldn't be beat. Highly recommend this product.

I just bought my first home 2 months ago and this thing has already paid for itself 10 times over. I bought this to replace a $20 Black and Decker drill that wasn't cutting it. This is perfect for DIY projects around the house. Powerful yet lightweight enough that an average 30-something female can use with ease. I have used it a few times per week for 2 months and have not needed to charge the battery yet. I use it with Dewalt drill bits and screwdriver set also bought on amazon. It does make a very small squeaking noise which is mildly annoying and I'm sure I could fix it if I cared enough to investigate but the awesomeness of the rest of the drill makes up for it.

First of all, lets get this straight. Black and Decker did NOT buy De Walt. Their is a review posted here that says they did. It simply is not true. The truth is that Stanley bought Black & Decker, De Walt, Porter Cable and Delta. I have this drill and have used it every day for almost two years. The batteries are NOT inferior. Lithium batteries are much better than NiCad batteries but you have to keep them charged. It is a characteristic of Lithium batteries that if you keep them charged, they last much longer. Even if you just drill one hole, RECHARGE the BATTERY! The older NiCad batteries had to be drained to failure to keep from developing a memory. With NiCad's the batteries would last much longer if you completely discharged them before recharging. KEEP LITHIUM BATTERIES FULLY CHARGED ALL THE TIME. The clutch on this drill / driver is fully adjustable. I have NEVER experienced any of the problems stated in these reviews. It seems that the reviewers do not know how to use the drill.

This replaces my 14.4V Dewalt which after 8 yrs was still running strong except for the two factory Ni-Cad batteries which finally would not hold a charge any longer. The cheapest after-market 14.4 batteries ran $40 apiece and the Dewalts were about $60 apiece so getting a more powerful new 18V drill with two factory batteries at $99 was a no-brainer. These new 18V batteries should last 8 yrs as well and by then I expect Ni-Cads will be pretty much obsolete and the litium ion drills will have come down in price when time comes for replacement. I always look for a great price,warranty and fast free shipping from Amazon.com when compared to other sellers on amazon which sometimes can be a bit of a hassle on returns.

I have coveted this for ages, and got it for myself as a belated Christmas present. You can't beat Dewalt for this price, especially this kit. Only found on Amazon, I looked everywhere. Best charger on the market, hands down, AND it comes with TWO batteries so you always have a back-up. Every other brand I've had either the charger or the battery goes bad, then when I go for replacement, the style is discontinued so you end up having to buy whole new kit. This kit has the same style male to female battery hook up as my brother's unit which is over 10 years old!
This charger never over-charges your batteries--you can leave it on and forget it til you need it--keeps battery at perfect charge without overheating it, so longer lifetime.
Plenty of power, easy to operate.
By the way, I'm a 64 yr. old woman crafter. Wanted to say that before I mention this unit is a little heavier weight than I'm used to, but so worth exercising my forearms a little more for the performance of the drill is outstanding.

Well, this was a winning choice as a present for my dear husband. He says he never owned such a fine tool before. Plus, it makes him feel kindly toward me, thus forgiving of the wild and crazy things I tend to do when the mood strikes. I believe this is the third DeWalt product (all different, they last forever) and now DeWalt is my "go to" power tool brand. I'm not about to discuss technical aspects of power tools, especially this one, which I've never touched, so forget about it. Suffice it to say my husband is 81 and is using this tool to replace/secure the woodwork on our Lexan enclosed sun porch, which he built in the first place with a most irritating tool that did not perform to his standards of excellence. This tool, he says, makes the work easier.

Women with handyman husbands should listen to what they say about the tools they have, how pleased or irritated they are with the performance, how much they cuss when a tool fails to do a good job. By listening, I select a couple of options to run by the husband....I do it when we are reading, and just casually ask him, "What is a drill/driver?"....and go from there. He will oblige with an answer which includes the features he looks for. And that is how in my infinite wisdom I came to make DeWalt products my first choice.
