After my 18v batteries no longer held a charge I upgraded to the 20v series. I still have several 18v tools that I do not own in the 20v option. This saved me from having to buy several other replacements. So far it's been working great. When I bought this I made sure it was compatible with my compact batteries and tools. Requires use of DEWALT 20V MAX* charger - Adapter will not fit into DEWALT 18V chargers - Do not use adapter with premium batteries (DCB200, DCB204, DCB204BT, DCB205) in 18V Compact drills DC970, DC759.

I read all reviews prior to purchasing and was initially concerned, thinking that only compact batteries could be used, and that it would be overly difficult to remove from tools. Since receiving it my fears have not materialized and I am very pleased. I have eliminated my 18v NI-Cad batteries and am using the adapter on my 18v vacuum, 18v Hammerdrill and driver, 18v rotary saw and recip saw. All work with both compact and large batteries. Originally it was tricky to remove the adapters, until I figured out that you just have to press firmly with both fingers near the top of the release mechanism. I now have 2 adapters and plan to get one for each of my 18v tools. So much more power with the 20v lithium ion batteries than the NI-cad versions.

This has brought new life to my 18V tools. I was on the fence about purchasing this or just slowly upgrading to 20V tools as most of my old 18V batteries were not holding much of a charge. I'm so glad DeWalt came out with this and I bought it. I weighed the adapter with a 5AH 20V battery attached and it was 1 lb 13 oz. then I weighed an 18V XRP battery that was 2 lb 6 oz. So now I can get twice the run time and it weighs less too. Not to mention all the benefits of lithium ion batteries. I highly recommend this adapter.

Amazing invention saves me from buying new 20v tools or buying new heavy 18v batteries. It's great to be able to use 20v batteries in my 18v tools it's much lights and last much longer. One problem I found is that it gets stuck in some tools and requires a bit of work to remove it.

Great adapter, thanks to Dewalt for adding in a little backwards compatibility. I couldn't be happier, this thing adds new life to the dozens of 18v tools I already own and at the same time, allows me to upgrade to the 20volt system without starting over from "tool one". I bought the new 20v weed wackier as well as a cordless blower, both of these come with 5Ah batteries and these high capacity batteries, coupled with one of these adapters, have about 3X MORE LIFE than the original 18v old style barreries ((1.8Ah) and really make your old tools shine again. I just bought 2 more of these!

Thanks DeWalt! First the Lithium ion battery and now this! You guys are right up there with Toyota for customer support! I really appreciate that my 18v tools continue to live on for years! Now I'm now phasing into the 20v line (I'm side-tracking here, but the 20v weed whacker is great!) Thanks again!

The list of Dewalt 18v tools that are incompatible with this adapter is really pretty short. I've tried it with each of the (10) 18v tools I have and they all work great. This adapter has breathed new life into my Dewalt collection!

This adapter works very good in my Circular Saw, Reciprocating Saw, Jig Saw and Hammer Drill with a 1.5Ah and 4.0 Ah so this really do the job, more power. I really recommend this DCA1820 Adapter for this tools. See how it looks in my photos on my 18v tools.

Great idea. Its a little tough to get the unit out of the tool but not too bad. If you have a weak grip or arthritis it could possibly be an issue. Very nice to be able to upgrade to lithium batteries.

Allows use of 20v batteries on old 18v tools. Won't work in radios or some other tools, but fine in drills, grinders and vacume. Works with full size batteries although the shape may be awkward. 20v battery needs to be charged in the 20v charger. Worth getting if you have both types of tools.

After all, my wife and I have gone through close to a dozen hand-held pruning saws during the 20+ years we've lived on our property. Those pruning saws always cut well when new but seem to get dull very quickly. With their close set, needle-like teeth they're also difficult to sharpen - and I've sharpened regular saws using saw sets and files. Eac...
