There's an old saying about having 'the right tools for the job.' The statement could not be any more correct. After years of trying to strip wires using: tools with a built in wire stripper as a second thought, scissors, razor blades and knives, this tool was like the holy grail. (I remember burning my fingers in college using a lighter, to melt the insulation off.) The stripping blades are super sharp, angle cut. With a little practice, you'll look like a pro in no time. I flew through the project of connecting my new car stereo. The strippers also have a very sharp cutter, crimping mechanism and small pliers on the tip. I combined this tool with some crimp caps (available very cheap) to make splicing wires, a snap. My car stereo install was not only quick and easy, but looks 100% professional. I was so pleased that I went back and redid several wiring jobs I had done years ago on other areas of my car. It took me no time to fix several of these projects. No more nasty, sticky electrical tape wrapped around wires with questionable connectivity. No more cutting my fingers or ruining wire, trying to strip it incorrectly. No more ugly heat shrink tubing.
These strippers are very solidly built. The metal is durable and will last many, many years. I highly recommend getting the more compact 7" tool, as most projects will require you to work in smaller, cramped spaces. It has a great locking mechanism, so you can even put them in a pocket, without risking injury or damaging your clothing. The tool also comes nicely oiled. The handles are rubberized and easy and comfortable to grip. I cannot wait to use these on more projects at home and at work. This is an invaluable tool for anyone doing any capacity of wiring.
Highly recommended to buy with this tool: crimp caps and zip ties. Using the zip ties to bundle your wiring jobs will give it a much more professional look. Also, I had some trouble with stripping larger gauge wires when I clamped down at an exact 90 degree angle to the wire and pulled straight out. I found that after I clamped down, if I twisted/wiggled/turned the stripper left to right a couple times (before pulling the insulation off) it helped to cut better, without damaging the wire or failing to cut on one side. (Pretend you are rattling a doorknob to imitate this action.)
I'm already scouring my home for more projects to use these on.

These are excellent wire cutters. They have a soft, comfortable grip and do just what wire cutters should do: cut wires. The description says they are 10-24 AWG, but according the the box, they're actually 10-20 AWG (you can tell from the picture too). They are not insulated, so you shouldn't cut live wires with these, but that's not a big deal most of the time. Overall, a good tool.

Well made. Solid feel. Easy to use. Well marked to see the units of measure. Sharp. Correctly sized (i.e., strips 14 guage wire at 14 guage - not too much, not too little). Will work with multiple sizes of wire. Built for professional electrician use. Comfortable handle that doesn't swing open too easily, but isn't hard to open or close. Works great.

I use these 6" wire stripper and cuters to strip 14 gage wire for 15 amp lights and electrical outlets. The insulation cutters are very sharp and strip from 10 to 20 gage wire. I wish they would include 22 thru 26 gage for telephone and data network work. I prefer no spring 8" strippers but thought I would give these a try. Plus I have big hands and the 8" strippers have a little more leverage when you squeeze. The larger stripper also has various crimpers if you need that sort of thing. They do have a latch to keep them shut so you don't get cut when not in use. I love the curved cutter. When I cut heavier wire the curve in the cutter keeps the wire from sliding out when you squeeze. I use the tip and adjacent crimp hole to grasp and shape wire for house and telphone wire. I find the insulated handles to be rugged and comfortable. I also use these when I don't have my needle nose pliers to fish small parts out of tight spaces. Note these are for cutting copper only! I found out long ago that hard wire will ruin these type of stripper's cutting blade.

I've always been strangely frugal when it comes to purchasing a wire stripping tool. For some reason I've just never had a set floating around when I needed it, and have never considered purchasing one because I always had scissors. It's pretty strange to think about, considering that they're relatively inexpensive. If you're like me then you've probably gone down that road, too. However, that road is one that is time consuming and not exactly a perfect science. After getting these I stripped all of the wires for my 5.1 surround sound system in about 10 minutes. It was fast, easy, and above all else, very comfortable when compared with the awkward and sometimes painful scissors method. I'm also pleasantly surprised by how solid this wire stripping tool is. It's not like the ones that I had used previously with one little notch that you have to manually make the wire gauge fit by applying just enough pressure. This tool doesn't feel like it will warp after you've been using it awhile, either (No promises, though. I have only had to use it the one time). I'm a big fan of the time savings that this provided me at a fairly low cost (about $10). You may not use these often, but it will make a pain in the @#$ time consuming job a lot easier.

I use this for installing speaker wire in my house, and I can confirm that every single time it does a perfect job! Instead of getting a cheaper one I spent a few extra bucks on this and I'm glad I did. It takes wire down to the copper very easily and strips it without problem. Highly recommended.

I bought the tools for my husband and myself, I can be very handy when need be, and I've heard my husband say, Irwin is USA made which is #1 in our buying decisions, and that they make a quality tool. I have my own "stash" of tools" so that I can easily get to them when a need arises! Thanks for still making quality USA made tools!

I purchased this with the only reason being I had to cut a few screws shorter than they were because I made a custom coat rack using cabinet pulls. It had come out nice until I realized the screws on the back would be pushing into the wall. Oops, major oversight. So I was googling about how people do this all the time if the screws stick out so far and found out that yes, you can shorten them and it's actually very easy. All you need is one of these tools. They have screw cutters built in, in various sizes, that let you slice through wickedly thick screws with barely any effort at all. I was shocked how well it worked.
Of course yes it strips wires and cuts them and does a bunch of other stuff that I have no idea what it's for or how to use it. But for the simple reason of cutting screws, this was a cheap, awesome way to get it done fast with no mess. No metal shavings from sawing through them, just pop and the end of the screw is off. And it makes sure that it leaves it threaded and not pinched so you can still thread a nut onto it as well.
Genius product, at an awesome price. Highly recommend.

I have bought a number of these pliers from various manufactures over the years, and these are the best, yet. They do everything you would expect, plus things you would not expect, i.e., crimping auto spark plug wires (I, normally, do this with a pair of slip joint pliers). The handles are well padded, so crimping is comfortable using a strong grip. They are well designed, marked and made. I have no complaints, only kudos.

There are certain tools you can go the cheap route with. Wire stripper/crimpers are not one of them. Pay just a little bit more to buy this wire stripping tool and you will not be sorry. Easy to use and should provide years and years of service.
