I took this on a five day backpacking trip as my #1 light. It was my only headlamp. It worked flawlessly despite some genuine abuse. One night we experienced a down-pour in the middle of the night. The next morning I found the headlamp inside the tent lying in a half-inch of standing water. I dried it off with a towel and turned it on. It was still working perfectly, so I simply removed the soaking-wet elastic band and hung it to dry.
Another time I removed my beanie forgetting that I was wearing the headlamp. It fell off my head and smacked the large rock I had been sitting on. When I checked the light, it was fine.
The batteries lasted the whole trip. After several nights of extensive use, the light was still going strong, with no sign of battery failure. I brought extra batteries, but never needed them. I couldn't have been more pleased with the performance of the light.

There are a few things I'm looking for in a headlamp:

1. Bright regular light for night time hikes and descents.
2. Less bright regular light setting for preserving battery life when brightness is not a priority.
3. Red light so I don't blind my buddies.
4. A button that won't turn on easily in the pack and burn out the batteries before I need the headlamp.

At the price they are selling this unit at I expected something that would last a few months at best and offer a decent light. I was wrong on both counts. This unit has a very strong light. I have a big yard. It can offer a light good enough to see to the back of the yard. Another thing I was pleasantly surprised about was the band that comes with it. It is not a flimsy piece of elastic. It is a nice constructed heavy headband. Very comfortable. I nearly bought a more expensive model thinking this one would be cheap. The only thing cheap about it was the price. I will be buying another soon.

This is a very good headlamp and customer service is excellent. The reason I know that is I had an issue with the head band popping out of the slots. This resulted in the headband dangling sideways from my head. Thanks to the company's e-mail checkins it was easy for me to respond and let them know about the issue. They were already working on a solution and sent me a new head band that fits much tighter so it is not likely to come out of the slots. So I should be seeing straight on my next backpacking trip.

I have used many and sundry headlamps over the decades and this is simply a stupendous find. It was economical, is simple to operate and is the brightest of those headlamps that I have used over the years. I mean this little lamp is more than bright enough to walk the trail in pitch darkness as it floods the area in front and reaches out with its bright beam for a goodly distance. I love the two white light settings. The lowest is more than bright enough to read by and the red bulbs are also good for reading at night and it has been my experience that fewer flying insects dive at the red light. I will highly recommend this lamp to all my friends. I am very pleased with Amazon and their service.

As most of the other reviews have stated, I found this to be a solid deal. Seems to be quality made (for a Chinese product). All functions work as designed. Came with fresh Duracell Industrial alkaline batteries. The high beam will sure blind you and the low (battery saver) setting seems like it should be bright enough for most applications. The red night visibility-saving setting and the red strobe setting could also be useful under the right circumstances. I've had trouble with the fit of some other head-lamps in the past but this one (when the band is fully let-out) fits my big size 8 & 1/2 head just fine. If you were going to wear this over a hat or even a helmet you should be OK also as the band seems to have plenty of stretch to it. If you need a decent made and reasonably priced headlamp, I'd highly recommend this one!! :^)

I live on horse property so 4:00 am feedings are the norm in my house. Because of this, I have gone through countless headlamps with varying degrees of success. When I received the Shining Buddy and turned it on, it was immediately game over. This headlamp is so far superior to any other one I had ever tried. SUPER bright, wide span, long distance, ultra comfortable and yeah! - the headband came already attached so no having to fuss with that. I used it once and was so impressed, I came back in the house and ordered 2 more. It now also tops my list for birthday gifts and stocking stuffers. It is THAT good!

I bought this headlamp for my son to use to climb Mt. Shasta. We spent 3 days on the mountain and for the summit we were up at 2 AM. I needed something super bright and reliable but also affordable (he is hard on equipment). I tell you what, this little light does the trick! It is WAY brighter than my much more expensive light and the batteries lasted quite a while. We used the red light first thing in the morning (mine doesn't have a red light on it). My only complaint is how the light attaches to the band, it came off one time and luckily my son caught it. I think that could be improved. Aside from that though, for the price of this light, you can't go wrong! I'll be buying one for myself and my other son who seems to lose his headlamp every trip...

I found the bright setting enough to see 10-15 feet away while jogging, and the dim setting good for proximity. I do not use the red lights regularly, so I can't give a real opinion of them, but I do wish there was some way to toggle the power without going through the other settings. The ratcheting tilt and headband held up just fine against exercise, and the water resistance is proving itself, so far.

For under $15 I find it completely worth it.

I bought the product out of curiosity in order to see first hand the many uses that it provided. It turned out to be a great headlamp that has many versatile applications. The first application that I found was to illuminate difficult to reach areas while working. It is very convenient having your hands free up from holding flash lights. It helped me to work better and easier. I will continue exploring its many uses.
