Had to replace my trusty Bosch Slim on short notice. Decided to go with this since I've always liked Porter and the price was right. First thing I noticed, it's not too much bigger than my Bosch which I loved for its ergonomics (I use my grinder about five or six days a week). It ain't clunky or cheap feeling either. Nice weight, feels good in my hands, doesn't wear me out using it for hours at a time. The handle does seem to be angled farther forward than the Bosch which I didn't think I'd like but it doesn't bother me too much. The handle does feel a lot cheaper than my old grinder but not a big deal since it is cheaper after all.

The cord came wrapped up real tight so I'll have to spend some time training it not to curl up since it seems to want to curl into the disc when I'm moving it/sitting it down. Kind of annoying but that'll go away before long.

The motor feels way stronger than my Bosch did but that's probably just cause this grinder is brand new and my Bosch had over a thousand hours of hard labor on it and I forgot what that thing was like out of the box.

One gripe everybody mentioned is the stupid guard. I love the quick release on the guard since you had to unscrew the guard on the Bosch, but I didn't need a bag of guards for each task back then. I could switch from rock to cutting disc and back to my rock without problems. I never had a need for different "types" of guards. And of course this one didn't come with the Type 1 you apparently need for a cutting disc.

So, this is what you do. The reason the Type 27 guard won't work for cutting discs is because it tapers at the top. Take the guard and lay it flat on a real sturdy table, grab you a hammer, and spend a few minutes tapping around the small hole where it connects. Do this till it's flat. Now put it back on and guess what, you got a Type 1 guard. Now I can switch between cutting and grinding wheels without rubbing. It ain't a big deal.

I like this grinder. Great tool for the moneys.

I have never had a grinder before. But I needed one to grind the heads of some large bed bolts on an F150 so I could pull the bed off. This grinder did the job very well. It look like 10 grinding wheels but I think that's just the reality of it. The guard is super convenient to move around with its quick release lever. Also, the tool it came with made it really easy to switch the wheels; just make sure you're paying attention to which side you tightening the lock nut down, one side is for cutting wheels and one side is for grinding wheels. And on that note, it worked very well to cut through some bolts as well as grind them. It quickly got me out of a few jams where I needed a bolt cut.

It feels pretty cheap and flimsy, and it is very loud. But for the price I got more than expected and it did what I needed. That is why it gets 5 stars.

Grinder appears well built. Great product at the present selling price of $30. I previously owned a Dewalt, Milwaukee, Skill, Black and Decker and Hitachi grinders. The quality of the Porter Cable is a bit higher than Skill, and Black and Decker. The Dewalt and Milwaukee is a bit better constructed and has support to obtain any spare parts. The Hitachi is of the worst quality although it cost more.

Excuse me for my grammar, I am not a native English speaker.

Anyway, I initially I was using air cutoff tool to cut my ceased front cv axle joint which has stuck and bonded to the hub. But, my air tank wasn't powerful enough to supply enough pressure for longer period of time. Air tool was doing its job, but, very slowly, due to lack of sustained air pressure.

So, I bought this electric angle grinder for hell of it.

And surprisingly, it is very powerful, yet lacks the "type 1 guard for cutting blades".

I made a search for the part listed on product detail section(type 1 cutting guard for this item), but, I couldn't find it in Amazon, I found it in other internet sellers.

So, I took a chance and decided to order Dewalt cutting guard from Amazon hoping it would fit, otherwise, return it,

Dewalt DC410/DC411 Grinder Replacement Guard (2 Pk) # 643772-00-2PK(***Dewalt DC410/DC411 Grinder Replacement Guard (2 Pk) # 643772-00-2PK***)

but, luckily, it was perfect fit. this type 1 guard fits like a glove to the porter grinder above.

In fact, I am very satisfied that this porter cable grinder was cutting faster than all of my air cutting saw and grinder.

If you want to use cut-off wheel, don't try it without the proper guard, just for the safety.

I am not here to advertise a product for a personal benefit or gain,
But, to let you know there is a type-1 guard out there that fits, in case, if you want to use this tool as cutting tool.

P.S
my cutoff wheel is all worn out in the pictures. I should've changed it before, it breaks off, and fly out. Another reason to use a guard.

I was tasked with refinishing a steel patio set that had been repainted too many times. I started the paint removal using an abrasive wheel designed for use with a drill, and while that worked, it was tedious and I could only clear maybe an 10th of the surface of the table with a battery charge. And this is a set of 4 chairs and a table, that was going to take way too long.

I decided an angle grinder would do a better job and be quicker. I also did not want battery life to be a limiting factor, so I wanted a corded model. I started looking for a smaller model with good review but lower price since I did not have any other projects planned that could make use of one or other projects in the past that I wished I had one.

This grinder fit the bill. It is a great value, not too heavy, has plenty of power, and can run for long stretches without overheating. And it made quick work of stripping paint using a minimally-aggressive flap wheel.

Great grinder for the price! It has a couple features I hadn't seen before -- the adjustable guard almost makes you want to leave it on! There is also a third attachment point for the handle that goes straight up. I own a small ornamental iron company, and we probably have 15 grinders floating around. My guys are easy on them but things wear out, and I'll definitely buy more of these.

A bit on the heavy side, as I'd expect all angle grinders to be, but it's not quite as noisy as my previous Ryobi. Great price for a solidly constructed unit, so it gets five stars. Seems well balanced. I wonder why these things don't come in multiple speeds, though.

I purchased to cut off 50 pieces of steel welded to a trailer deck. Its been operating very smoothly and hasn't missed a beat. Great price and quality seems great!!!!! The only downfall is cant use guard with cut off wheel because it rubs.

I've recently been migrating over entirely to Porter Cable Tools: whenever one of my tools dies or gets broken, I replace it with a tool from Porter Cable. That's true for this grinder, as I finally killed my old Rybi grinder. When it comes to shopping for a new angle grinder, I'm basically just looking for: 1) power, 2) a blade removal tool that stows in the handle instead of clipping to the cord, and 3) a tool that feels good in my hands.

This grinder hits all of those criteria. As I demonstrate in my video, the safety shield is removable in the event that you're going to be using odd-sized and over-sized blades and bits. I would suggest an array of blades, as it's nice to be able to grind, buff, cut, and shape with a grinder like this one.

I like Porter Cable simply because of the cost to value ratio: you get a high quality and rugged tool at a reasonable cost. They're certainly not fancy tools, but to date I've never had one die on me.

.................
This grinder was NOT given to me as part of any promotion. I bought it after doing some comparison shopping and this review is entirely the result of my own opinions and use of the product.
