This LED Lanterns are very useful. Downsize that you need more batteries. However, they do come in handy specially during the past 48 hours when we were without electricity. So highly recommended. Planning to purchase another four.

I chose the four pack of these LED Lanterns by Active Research as my pre-hurricane purchase for lights this year. We live in coastal North Carolina and frequently end up with at least one storm a year that knocks the power out for long enough to be an issue. I also have a very active family and we love to camp, so these will be pulling double duty with us.
These are cylindrical lanterns, with a gunmetal grey colored housing and clear plastic covering over the many LED lights. They have an almost industrial look, which I really like. Each lantern needs three AA batteries for power. Batteries are not included in the package so you'll need to make sure you have enough on hand. Compared to other large lanterns and flashlights, this isn't much as far as batteries go.
These lanterns are really neat. They start out the size of a can of soup and then expand up to almost double their size when the entire light is visible. They also have two folding handles that can either be used to carry them or hang them up. The handles curve to allow them to lie flush along the sides of the lanterns. This is a great feature when it comes to packing or storing them, since they are far less likely to snap off or get bent if they aren't sticking out. The bottoms of the lanterns are nice and flat and create a stable base for them to sit on. They also hang well, as the handles are long enough to keep them from slipping off a nail or peg.
Each of these lanterns contains 30 Ultra Bright LED lights. I would actually consider Ultra Bright to be a bit of an understatement in this case. These lanterns really are super bright. The flashlight feature is activated by pulling the top of the lantern up out of the bottom housing. Once it's open more than about a quarter of an inch, the light turns on. You can adjust the amount of light exposed by adjusting the height of the lantern. It slides easily with a gentle push or pull and remains placed where you leave it until you move it again.
The light that comes from the lantern at the lowest height is enough to illuminate a room, and the light from the lantern at it's full height can light up a good portion of our backyard. These will be great for camping, because we will be able to place them strategically so paths and bathrooms and campsites are all adequately lit. For now, we have one in each bedroom and one in the kitchen for emergencies if the lights go out. I am very impressed with the quality and performance of these LED lanterns, and have already considered how many more I need to purchase.

I wanted lanterns for various reasons, electrical outages, camping, extra light on the patio and For our boat. So they had to be battery powered with a long life, lightweight, easy to pack or stow and preferably aesthetically pleasing. These lanterns hit all the marks! They do not come with the 3 AA batteries needed though so take note. The light is bright but not overpowering and it has a wide range. It's compact and collapsible so it can fit easily wherever I need extra light. They also have a 72 hour life span. I really like the little stainless steel handles in the side. It makes it easy to carry and they fold up nicely on the side when not in use. Overall this was a great purchase and I will be buying more.

I purchased a four pack of the Active Research® LED Lanterns mostly for emergencies! I hate to have a power outage and not have access to some sort of light or having to fumble around attempting to light candles or pour lamp oil in my oil lamps (very messy) This lanterns only take three Double A Batteries (Not Included) and you have brilliant light and it is easy to carry around! I put batteries in all four and have them within easy reach just in case we need them.
My son took two lantern's with him camping and said he only had to use the one because they are so bright and didn't need to stress over dropping it in the water while he was fishing because they are Water Resistant...

We just got back from our annual camping trip and we got these (2 Pack) Portable LED Lanterns from Active Research right before we left...and boy was it a HUGE improvement to our night time lighting! These are both powered by just 2 AA batteries and WOW are these babies bright! Our old lanterns were chop liver when holding them next to these Ultra Bright new ones. I now know the true meaning of omnidirectional lighting!
I have loved the design of the collapsible lantern since we purchased our first ones about 3 years ago-that was when my boyfriend insisted on taking me and his son (now 7 years old) camping for the first time. I have always loved the great outdoors but I also love the comfort of a mattress and a bathroom close...you know! But we started to go out and get all the camping supplies and I started having fun with it...and of course now we go every year. I can say I think I have more fun finding new and better ways to improve our camping experience, than probably the camping itself! Lol
