I was interested in correcting the paint on my black car. I studied the subject for 2-3 weeks and decided to buy the Harbor Freight DA Polisher(Poter Cable style). I saw several people complain about the backing pad that came with the HF polisher. I ordered this, before I bought the polisher, but tried the polisher with the Harbor Freight backing pad and a HF 6" foam pad, just to see how it worked. My pad was damaged after 2-3 minutes of use!!

I replaced the Backing Pad with my new Astro, from Amazon, and the pads now last longer, with no damage to the back of the pad! An easy 5 stars!!

I was completely new to polishers/detailing. I didn't know what type of pad would fit my machine, or how they attached. I only bought this because another Amazon reviewer mentioned the HF polisher in his review. I wrote this lengthy review to help out a novice, like I was.

If you buy the Harbor Freight DA Polisher and you plan to use 6" foam pads (like they sell at HF), buy this!

My pads stay in place perfectly and I'm VERY pleased with my results.

I also ordered Meguiars Ultimate Compound,Ultimte Polish and their Supreme Shine microfiber from Amazon. My black Camaro now looks perfect! I'm amazed at the professional results!

No surprise, Amazon's service was awesome, as always.

I ordered this for my Porter Cable 7424XP. After reading the poor reviews of the pad that came with the polisher and the poor quality Porter Cable velcro backing plate available I ordered Meguiars pads and backing plate only to find the Meguiars plate does not fit. (The Meguiars Foam pads are excellent- I highly recommend them). I machined an adapter fitting but it is not precise and causes vibration as the 5/16 shaft is not perfectly centered.
I ordered the Astro. It fits as it should (5/16 shaft),the velcro holds the pad as well as the Meguiars plate,it runs smoothly at all speeds with no vibration and has the same ammount of flex at the edge as the Meguiars. It is also the same 5" diameter. The only negative is that unlike the Made in USA Meguiars plate, the Astro is made in China.

I bought this product to use with my 6" Griot's ROP. The plate fits and works perfect. This allows me to use pads from 5.5" up to 6.5". 5.5" pads are a lot cheaper and are easier for me to use with better results. The plate also came with three washers. Theses are usually about $1 apiece. I feel this plate is a great product and a great buy. I highly recommend it for either a Griot's or Porter Cable ROP for anyone wanting to use 5.5" - 6.5" pads. It makes my Griot's polisher much more usable as I can use not only Griot's pads but also almost any other pad I choose

If you were like me and recently purchased a Porter Cable orbital buffer, you know that PC didn't include a way to attach numerous pads to your new buffer. This is exactly what you need to remedy your problem. It has a velcro backing that is able to attach most every industry standard pad with a velcro back. Simply tighten the set screw on your PC to firmly attach the ASTRO and you are done! place any velcro backed pad onto it.

Tip: included with the ASTRO is a small black plastic ring. If your backing pad is rubbing slightly against the PC gaurd, take ASTRO off, put small ring onto ASTRO stud on back, and then reinstall pad. The ring is like a small shim and makes all the difference in the world. Your PC should have come with a small ring like this as well.

I've been using this pad on my lathe to do free hand shaping. I like how its flexibility leaves more of a rounded surface on your work, it makes it easier to blend curves together.

Works great with Porter Cable DA sander/buffer and Meguiar's 6.5" pads. I applied compound and wax and the Meguiar's pads stuck very well, even when they were wet after cleaning them. I kept the plastic package to store this backing pad in because I don't want to damaging it when storing my buffer. Also, the Porter Cable wrench fits perfectly in the plastic package so you don't forget it when attaching this to your buffer. There were some plastic washers included but I didn't use them.

This product fits great on my porter cable 7424xp da polisher/sander. I purchased this product to use along with my new hex logic pads and it was a perfect fit. You won't be disappointed.

Perfect addition to the Harbor Freight dual action polisher. I bought the el cheapo Porter Cable knock off at Harbor Freight (which actually works awesome by the way, even after major usage). I also picked up some of the Harbor Freight pads. Using the stock backing plate that came with the HF unit resulted in the HF pads getting shredded apart fairly quickly. The issue was that the backing plate spanned the entire width of the pad, while the velcro portion of the pad was only about 5". When in use, the velcro "hook" portion of the plate would dig into the non-velcro part of the pad, resulting in the foam getting chewed up and destroyed quickly.

I replaced the stock HF backing plate with this one and it has largely alleviated those problems. It is a direct fit for the HF unit. This plate is almost the exact diameter of the velcro portion of the HF (and most other brand's) pads. Now when in use, the foam portion of the pad simply flexes instead of striking the velcro portion of the plate. This backing plate is also more flexible than the HF plate which helps when polishing non-flat surfaces. I've used this for quite some time now and have had no issues with its durability or any balancing problems.

Works as intended. Fits my Porter Cable 7424XP just fine. Went right on, screwed in place and it's been there ever since. This backing plate has just the right amount of give on the edges to make it so you can buff without worry of too much pressure if you skew the buffer. It fits my 5.5" foam pads that I get from Chemical Guys and does a nice job. I was initially skeptical because of the price (it's less expensive than similar) but it works great. I'd buy it again for sure.
