Pretty simple aluminum oxide sharpening stone. Below are the "Care & Use Instructions" directly from the back of the box (which I couldn't find anywhere on this Amazon listing). Hope someone finds it useful for deciding on a purchase:
"This stone uses oil as a lubricant. Immerse the stone for 1 minute to fill it and apply oil on the surface occasionally during use to flush away abraded material. The 150 grit dark side is used for basic sharpening, removing nicks, etc. The 280 grit light side is used for final honing or touchups. Use the full stone surface when sharpening."

bought this stone for my woodworking shop. I needed a good stone to touch up the edges on my chisels and plane irons.
I couldn't afford one of those water stones and besides you would have to buy special tools to keep the water stone flat.
With this stone just saturate in mineral oil and your good to go. A course side to take out those nicks in the edge and a fine side for great touch ups to keep the edges razor sharp. Highly recommend and would buy again.

After using this stone my knife was very sharp. I used mineral oil to wet the stone and that seemed to work fine. No noticeable wear on the stone after sharpening my knifes.

A touch of honing oil or just pain motor oil, a little work and time, your pocket knife (or whatever edged tool) is sharp once more. Works as it should. Amazed that this is no longer a common item in most households and hardware stores. They last forever..

This was a sharpening dream that if you oil the stone, it makes a honed edge. I think it's a bit small for sharpening swords, but I bought it for sharpening knives. So it does the job. But I would buy honing oil for the stone, since it's not a ready file, or a ceramic sharpening rod. Would recommend for those who want sharp knives.

After 30 years plus of use.. wore out my two grit stone (At least one side). Needing to replace it for my Scout Group... this fit the bill. Price Point, Grit and size... suspect Scouts will be using these long after my departure.

Simply works. This is a product I was looking for. I used to sharp my knifes on the stone and when I moved to US I was looking for exactly this. Two sides with different roughness. People have to know a bit how to sharp a knife on this but once you get used to it it is just great, long lasting tool as part of the house tools!

I don't think this is what I'd go with if I was honing an extremely expensive blade, but this is a fine sharpening stone for the four dollar price tag. The fine side on this is a bit rougher than some other stones I've seen, so again, probably not the worlds best bet for putting a razor edge on super high quality blades. The course side seems to be about the same as most of the stones I've seen. This is a great option if you want something to toss in a kitchen drawer to give knifes a quick pass if they are seeming a little dull. I'd definitely make this purchase again.

Bought this to replace a broken stone. Works just like you'd expect a chunk of aluminum oxide should.
This is for re-profiling fine blades or sharpening tools. You _could_ sharpen a pocket knife with this, if you used a coarse strop to help deburr and hone, but that's really missing the point. Put a working edge on a hatchet and ground out a nick on a Bowie no problem.
