Combining power, ease-of-use, ergonomic features and innovations designed for visibility, control and overall performance, the DEWALT DWP611PK compact router can handle a variety of applications--from small bevel cuts to large edge profiles and heavy flush trimming. In addition to its beefy 1-1/4 horsepower motor, the DWP611PK is equipped with dual LED lights for ample illumination. This package comes with both fixed and plunge bases, but it's also available just with a fixed base.
Power and Performance
The DWP611 compact router features a 1-1/4 peak HP motor that delivers significantly more power than competitors' models to help you be as productive as possible. The variable speed control helps you to better manage the tool and determine the speed that is best suited for the application at hand. A low, contoured grip that is close to the work surface also contributes to an excellent level of control--providing both precision and productivity on the job site. The soft starting motor features full time electronic feedback that maintains motor speed through the cut. An adjustment ring enables controlled bit depth changes to within 1/64-inch.
Comfort and Convenience
The fixed base's dual LEDs and clear sub-base ensure maximum visibility in operation. The extended 1/4-inch router collet provides greater bit contact with the bit shaft than traditional routers, allowing you a firm grip on the bit and less vibration. The D-shaped sub-base provides stability and flatness when running edge profiles, and the spindle lock has been designed to greatly improve the ease of bit change by incorporating a large button that can be actuated with the same hand that stabilizes the router.
The plunge base features a clear and precise depth scale and marker, a release-to-lock lever to maintain the designated depth setting, and rubber handles for a non-slip grip. It delivers excellent user control via its smooth and light depth stroke, and the five-step adjustable turret stop enables stepped plunge cuts for accuracy and consistency.
The router also features two tabs that allow for a quick and simple base release, and a new base/adjustable clamp design so the motor location is maintained through the toughest applications.
Warranty
This DEWALT tool is backed by three-year limited warranty covering any defects due to faulty materials or workmanship (from the date of purchase).

It's everything I needed in a router. I know it's just a palm router, but I cut out an entire guitar with it plus built templates, planed joints, did very precise cuts, and gutted hoards of wood out of thick slabs and it never noticed. I love how fast it is to swap bases and bits. The LED lights are a huge plus! This is a quality piece of equipment!

I just got my new compact router and just played with it. So far GREAT!

I had just returned a Trend to Woodcraft `cause it was a step above junk.

Everything that was bad on the Trend is top notch on the Dewalt. It is so smooth (the Trend was really bad at higher speeds) I am doubt that it is really turning 27K RPM. The "feel" is almost as good in my hand as my Bosch Colt.

I got it mostly to cut shelf pin holes. I got my jig, installed a 5/8 bushing and cut about ten holes. Good plunge action, fast depth setup, and easy bit change. Easy bushing install. The depth locking adjustment feels solid and secure.

I think it will become my go-to for small edge profiles and shelf pins.

My PC690 edge guide fits the plunge base.

Professional quality, worth the cost

UPDATE: I have used this router for stopped profiles on cabinet carcases and have cut shelf pin holes in about 6 cabinets. With the fixed base it has excellent balance and control. With the plunge base, it is a little top heavy but has smooth action. Setting the depth is easer and more accurate than my 890 Porter-Cable. The depth seemed to be locked in (I have had by older PC-690 plunge router) not stay locked in, it got deeper as I went.

Update to Update: Wish Dewalt had a 8mm collet available to use with the Leigh jigs.

Cons:
Same junk stamped wrench as most tools nowadays I had an extra Bosch 17MM from my Colt that solves this.

I bought the DeWalt 611 for cutting inlay channels and decorative routing in small hardwood keepsake boxes. I have used it, for example, to rout a quatrefoil design in the lid of a small rosewood box. It produced superb results. It is powerful enough to do the job well and yet small and light enough to be very mobile and controllable. The two small LED lights embedded on the underside of the motor housing work very well, providing light right where it is most needed for this type of work. The plunge mechanism is smooth and easy to use and the stops work very well to control the depth. But be aware that this tool can only use 1/4 in. collar router bits. This is not a problem for my type of usage, but if you've got a large investment in 1/2 in. bits, they're useless with this router.

After returning the Bosch colt and plunge base to amazon because 3 separate plunge bases would not allow the Bosch motor to go all the way in and the fine adjustment was a nightmare (changes when locked in) i ordered the Dewalt 611 PK from amazon. After a week with this router it is much better than the Bosch hands down. I have always been a fan of Bosch but they lost out on this one. I have been a woodworker for over 50 years and have several routers but at my age the smaller the better if it performs. The only complaint i have with the Dewalt is at my age (84) the spindle lock for changing bits is hard for me to use with artheritis in my hands, i really prefer the 2 wrench system myself for me it's much easier to use. Other than that to me it beats the Bosch colt hands down. Every part of this router is very easy to set up and use. Hope this helps others to decide. W. Booker

This is a well-designed, well-made tool. It's smaller and less powerful than a standard sized 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 HP router, so if you're buying your first router you should look elsewhere - the DeWalt 618, Bosch 1617, or Porter-Cable 690. The DeWalt 611 has a 1-1/4 HP motor and it's small enough to be held with one hand, but it only takes bits with a ¼" shaft, whereas a standard router will accept both 1/4" and 1/2" bits. If you use it with one hand, be sure to keep your other hand clear of the router bit. It's good for chamfering, rounding over edges, edging countertop laminate, and for trimming the stick-on facing used on the exposed edges of plywood. It might make shallow dados, but for any moderately heavy work it's better to use a standard two-handed router. Similarly, it wouldn't be sensible to mount the DeWalt 611 under a router table, because the lack of extra power would limit the depth and width of cuts.

The design of the fixed base is similar to the Porter-Cable 690, which is a classic. The motor rotates inside the base like a big screw inside a big nut (the base). So it's easy to make fine adjustments up and down. A rotating collar lets you set zero and then rotate the motor to a specific depth. A locking collar holds the motor securely so that the bit stays at the desired depth. The adjustment mechanism probably makes it a better choice than the Bosch Colt trim router, with which it competes, and it has a couple of refinements vs. the Porter-Cable trim router, even though both brands are owned by the same corporation. The motor has a soft start, which makes it safer and easier to use as a hand-held tool. There's a shaft lock you hold so that you can tighten or loosen the bit with one wrench instead of two, and it works better than most router shaft locks. The wrench that was included (in Nov. 2014) was made from heavy gauge steel - heavier than the wrench included with the larger DeWalt 618.

The plunge base included with the 611PK kit is well designed, with four turret stops and a threaded stop rod that can be used to make very fine depth adjustments, so it's suitable for doing marquetry and inlay work. You can orient the router in both the fixed and plunge bases with the cord facing toward you or away from you.

The 611PK kit comes in a heavy duty nylon bag rather than in a hard case, which some reviewers complain about. I think it's fine as long as you don't fling it around. The only complaint I have is that the instructions are printed in 8 point type, which is just too small. That seems to be a corporate policy for Porter-Cable routers, and P-C owns DeWalt. Even the downloadable PDF manual uses tiny type, and if you enlarge it and print it at home, the image fuzzy. Bosch makes a much more readable instruction manual and DeWalt could learn from that.

This router is made for hand work. It holds easy and you can move around in tight spaces. Leave deep hog-out work for the big boys unless you have a way to step into the work. The small base and light weight does not lend this unit to heavy cuts. If Dewalt comes out with a bigger base then that issue would go away. Routed out (36) pockets on a project I am working on using a 1/2" and 3/8" bits. All pockets were done freehand and looked great; clean staight cuts with no pull-in at the corners. On 1/4" bits I would recommend spiral flutes rather than straight flutes due to heat-up issues with the bit. The router has more than enough power to handle the loads it was designed for.

Review after (3) months of use.
Made some ajustments to the base clamp system and now the tool powers through cuts OK. Chip build-up around the base is a problem when doing long straight cuts. I suggest leaving .01 on the depth for the final pass then a no-load pass to get the bottom of the cut smooth and clean. Otherwise, it is a well thought out power tool espesially with the LED lights. Bottom line - the more you use this tool, the more you will appreciate its capability.

I have a router table and four larger routers that sometimes are to big for the job.
I've use this router to make signs. It has lots of power and is very easy to operate.
The plunge feature is very accurate and works well.
This is a small foot print router, but does not lack power!
Arrived a day late, but in excellent condition.
Would have preferred a hard case rather than the cloth one that is packed with the kit.
I like this router and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a small powerful tool.

Being a Porter Cable shop when it comes to routers, I spotted this palm router to be far superior to the Bosch Colt that has been in the market for years and has a huge following. First of all as it has been mentioned, Dewalt's DWP611PK is designed after the PC 690 series routers - a very reliable method of setting the bit depth. You see this design in the fixed base and plunge base. The plunge base will except the STANDARD Porter Cable bushings and will also accept the router edge guide for the 690 Porter Cable. The LED lighting makes routing so much easier and should be on all routers in my opinion. Soft start and variable speed is a very nice touch and the horsepower (1.25HP) is the most on the market from a palm router. Both bases have a flat edge which works very well with routing dados with a straight edge.

I'm very happy with this router and if you are considering a palm router for your shop, get this one. Even if you don't think you'll use the plunge base, you will be glad that you have it and find that it's indispensable.

Happy Routing!

I use this router in general wood working and guitar repairs. While it can not take a 1/2 shank bit, that is not relevant because it does not have the power to handle anything that large. Construction is very sturdy and yet somehow they kept the weight down. If you have to pick it up, make a cut, then put it down repeatedly, you soon come to appreciate the useful power combined with light weight. As a trim router and for small bits I don't think a better small router is available. For its intended purpose, this little guy is great. The threaded primary depth adjustment is the only way to build a useful router. Forget those routers with twist depth adjuster on the side. Those are a waste of money. (Proof is seen in the popularity and longevity of the Porter-Cable 690 series which have the best design.) The plunge accessory is excellent. The plunge controls are silky smooth and dead accurate. The micrometer depth stop limiter fine adjustment is especially helpful. This component threads onto the end of depth limiter rod. To control change depth of cut in tiny fractions you can rotate the adjuster up or down a tiny bit. Both router bases take "standard" porter cable style guides. Both bases are see through plastic. That is a very nice feature. I do have several high powered routers in my shop, but this router is a very welcome addition. It immediately became the shop favorite for a variety of tasks. I have already ordered a second kit. Well worth the money.

I love this router. High quality at a great price. I keep the plunger base attached to my router table and slide the router body in when I need to. Otherwise I find myself reaching for the compact router, which feels great and can even be used comfortably one handed.
