A 180 lumen spotlight/flashlight. It lights up your whole bedroom, or hallway on the way to the bathroom at 2:00am! Very Bright. DON'T LOOK AT THE LIGHT!!!
Light weight, fits the hand good. I wanted a flashlight that did not need bulb replacement, this one has a "forever bulb". I wanted a flashlight that uses AA, this uses 4 AA and has a 5 hour run time. In a 4 day outage it should last if used conservatively.
For me it is a perfect flashlight/spotlight.
Instructions on installing batteries is non-existent and hard to figure out. The black bottom UNSCREWS! and the batteries go in two positive inward, and two positive outwards. There are little TINY pictures that show which way so look carefully.
All in all a 5/5 and a good deal to boot!! With another small item, free shipping is available.

Edit: Bought in Nov, 09. Now Apr, 2010. Still on original batteries, with no recharge! Not as bright of course, just a noticeable tad less, but still bright enough for indoors, and still shines across the street, real good. Real good for a 5 hour continuous run time. Best flashlight on the planet, my humble opinion. Why do you think 12 people, so far, give it 5 STARS?!?!?! It is AWESOME!!

EDIT: Now is Nov. 10, 2010. I have used this flashlight nearly every day for the last year, on the ORIGINAL batteries without recharging them. I wanted to see what this baby could do! It is not as bright of course, but still bright enough for indoors. Outside I can no longer make out colors across the street in the dark, nor illuminate the farthest street sign 2 blocks away, nor the trees on the next street. But close up is still good and in the house is fine, still lights up my bedroom when shined on the ceiling! About 1/2 or less than brand new. Will now use my Rechargeable AA's, and keep them charged, so will always be bright. Best Flashlight I have ever owned.

Update: Jan. 1, 2014. Still kicking. Great Flashlight. I keep it by the bedside.

Best designed flashlight I've seen. Squared off sides so it sits on surface without rolling. Switch easy to access and use, positive on and off. The yellow color makes it easy to find when it's dark enough to need a flashlight. I'm amazed at the number of flashlights that are black. The hand grip is comfortable. AA batteries cost the same but have 4 times the capacity of AAA's. And it is BRIGHT.

This flashlight is fantastic. It's very bright, with a nice white light (not bluish like some LED flashlights). The spot is very focused and long. I don't know if it's as long as it's rated, but it's very good. The spill light is also very bright and useful. Overall, the flashlight is very light and easy to hold. The switch is easy to depress. You may not be able to hammer in a nail, like a maglite, but the Dorcy is easier to hold.

I am very happy with this light. I've had several of those "1 million candle power" spots over the years, and either the bulb burns out quickly, or the battery stops holding a charge after a short while. I'm tired of the hassles. This one is a keeper.

Feels like cheapo plastic, uses run-of-the-mill AA batteries but brighter than anything else I have (and I usually use Surefires with those fairly expensive lithium 123A batteries). Great for the price. Nice long distance spotlight... good for urban exploration, if you're into that kind of thing. Minuses: Maybe too big to carry on a belt...probably not waterproof.

The video compares the Dorcy to a Surefire LED flashlight in the Arroyo Chico tunnel in Arizona. Batteries were nearly new in both lights.

It's just a flashlight, right? I thought I had lost my mind spending this kind of money on a frickin flashlight just for walking my dog, when you can get a good-enough flashlight for $2 at any local store. Well, when it arrived I was shocked. This thing turns night into day. It has an extremely bright middle area shine, and a well-lit surrounding area shine, it's just what you want. It also shines far too... Every night I use it and still can't believe how bright this thing is.

One word of warning... The stickers telling you the direction to put the batteries in are small and nearly invisible... Look closely, or you'll spend an hour wondering why your new flashlight won't turn on.

We have used this every day for a couple of months (same batteries). I am now purchasing a second one as my wife has taken over this one. This should be called a spot light not a flashlight. It is amazing. I can clearly see a spotlight on a large tree from 500 ft away.

We live out in the country and have gone through/tried many flashlights. Either they are too big or too cheaply made for everyday use. We didn't want to spend a fortune so I gave this one a shot.

Before purchasing, I read the reviews and thought - ok, people like this - but since we have been using it - for the price this light is over the top. It is light, easy to hold, easy to turn on and off.

The batteries aren't put in as easy as others - but I like them being more secure than the flashlights I have to jiggle to get the beam to work because the batteries are loose.

ONLY CAUTION - don't buy this if you need multiple levels/controls of brightness - But I have found it works great from a few feet to a few hundred feet - it's just can't be turned down if you want a minimum "footprint".

Be sure to also get the SANYO rechargable batteries - excellent run time.

This light is great if you need an intense, focused beam for seeing things at a distance. As a sailor, I've been a big fan of the Streamlight Survivor LED flashlight for this particular purpose. Compared to the Survivor, this Dorcy is almost as good at distance spotting. It is not as solidly built or as well sealed against moisture. Its lightweight construction does mean that the light will float for a while if dropped in the drink, and would probably survive a long fall with little damage. Its also likely to be less damaging when it flies across the boat cabin in a heavy sea....

Ergonomically it is very well designed. It has a flat end so that it can stand upright in "candle" mode to help illuminate a room with ceiling bounce. The square shape keeps it from rolling and the rubber bezel and end cap also help it remain in place on moving or slanted surfaces. It feels very good in the hand.

Electrically, this light does not have regulated output, but that can be a good thing since it will gradually lose brightness, giving you plenty of warning that its time to change the batteries. At a full 6 volts from 4 AA alkaline cells, the light draws 0.7 amps (will give about 4 hours at near max output). As voltage drops, it will draw less and less until at 2.9 volts it is still producing useable light while only drawing .06 amps. You won't get this kind of good light from a standard incandescent flashlight with dying batteries. If you like to use rechargeable AA cells, you'll still get a bright light, but you'll need to be careful not to over-discharge/reverse charge them to prevent damage to your cells.

If you are looking for a defense light, this isn't it. Although very bright, the rubberized ends would not make much of a strike.

This also is not the ideal close work light, since its output is so intensely focused into a relatively small spot.

For the price here on Amazon, this is a great flashlight. I don't hesitate to recommend it to my friends that don't need a service duty quality light, but do need a good bright light that does a lot of things right.

I own a lot of flashlights. I'm a flashlight fanatic you can say. Just to name a few: Dorcy 41-2510 4 LED Carabineer Floating Waterproof Flashlight, Fenix TK40, TK45, & TK35, Nebo Redline Tactical Flashlight Strobe S.O.S 220 Lumen, Smith & Wesson Galaxy 13 LED Flashlight, LED MAGLITES, Coast LED Lenser HP8407 Focusing LED, Coast LED Lenser HP8417 Focusing LED, ITP Light A6 Polestar 700 Lumen Cree MC-E LED, and ITP Light A1 EOS 3-mode CREE LED Keychain flashlight. I use them all almost a on daily basis. I keep one or two in the each cars, around the house, the basement, in my backpack and places that's readily ready when I need a flashlight. If I'm not using them for hiking or camping, I used them around the house and or working on my cars. But anyway, this Dorcy 41-4750 has got to be one of the best purchase and value flashlights of it's kind. It's inexpensive, bright, light weight, easy to spot with it's yellow body. It uses 4 AA batteries that seem to last such a long time. It only aluminates 180 lumens max and you would think it's not that bright, but it's bright enough! You can see quite well when it shines. I think it shot over 100 yard of lights. And I have been using it for more then 3 months now and I have yet to replace the batteries. It's mostly used at home or around the house, such as lighting the way to get firewoods in the backyard to working in the garage. And sometime with a late night walks. For 22 dollars and free shippig and comparing to most of my highend flashlights this Dorcy can really hold it's own weight! Ofcourse my Fenix, Coast, ITP are greater lights but they are also more expensive. But if you're looking for a nice inexpensive flashlight to use around the house that works really well, I can't recommend this Dorcy 41-4750 enough.

This is one flashlight I don't need to worry about abusing, and it surely can take some abuse. I have dropped it and thrown it several times here and there. And it's still works as new, and ofcouse I wouldn't dare drop or throw my other more expensive flashlights even though they are suppose to be able to handle it. And I can almost say it's better then my Maglites.

Again, I really do recommend this Dorcy 41-4750 flashlight! I won't be disappointed!

I "discovered" the Dorcy flashlight by reviewing online law enforcement write-ups, which picked it as a top 5 flashlight for beam strength and illumination distance. Tonight I took my dog out to a large city park (Munich's English Garden) and I was easily able to illuminate her at distances of 200+ feet. The beam remained tight and focused, enabling me to clearly see in open or wooded spaces. An added plus to carrying this light at night would be its self-defense use: this flashlight's powerful focused beam, if shined on a suspicious person, should readily confuse/disorient them, at greater stand-off distances than afforded by conventional flashlights. Easily a 5 star product (I write this review as I buy a 2nd Dorcy for in-home use).

This flashlight is bright! It makes our bathroom seem like day if you point it at the ceiling. When used outside in the middle of the night, it lights up our neighbor's house across the street. It's very sturdy and I think it could survive a long drop. (I'm not going to test it though.) It uses 4 AA batteries. It doesn't have very good flood, but the spot is awesome. Overall a very solid flashlight.
