This engraver works incredibly well. Although it looks unweildy, its very easy to control and engrave clearly. In fact, my engravings turned out to look just like my handwriting. I've used it to engrave tools and other metal and steel products, and it has done it with ease. I've had one for several years now, and its still an excellent & reliable engraver.

I bought this engraver with birthday money from a discount store last fall, after researching it online. It will leave its mark on just about anything you would want. I like the variable speed settings which allows you to match the work to the material. I have used it to initial all my tools so there is no mistaking who it belongs to. It works on hardened steel as well as plastic. My wife uses it for craft projects in her pre-school teaching job.

The tool works fine. Note that the cutting tip is the important 'business end' of this tool. It is supplied with a general purpose point tip, great for writing your name on something. But you can put any tip in there you want--and it will make a difference. You can buy other Dremel tips or make your own. You can easily reshape the provided tip into a more traditional engraving style. By the way the packaging states that the tool is made by Bosch in Mexico for Dremel. It's a bit loud, pretty much like all electric engravers though. If you want depth to your engraving the tool can do it, you just have to repeatedly go over (and over, and over) your design. The variable stroke length does help but frankly doesn't make a large difference in most metals and you give up some tool control on the higher settings.

My use for this is to "Sign" finished pieces of wood art. Other engravers I have had were clumsy to hold. This one is very good.

I had recently purchased a different engraver from my local hardware store. It was my first time using an engraver but even so I could tell it wasn't working well at all. I took it right back and bought this Dremel. Man, what a difference!! This thing works like crazy! I feel like I can engrave anything successfully. Don't worry about making this purchase. Just go ahead and buy it.

this product works well.. i use it to engrave my luggage.. so even if the tag gets ripped off the airline can still see my contact info. i also use it to write on power adapters so i know what product they go to. Dont you hate it when you have all those little black adapters and they dont have a name on them? well just write Timmys R/C car, or Daddys Nokia cell phone etc.. and problem is solved.

I engraved 79 ornaments for a fund raiser/memory tree for a genealogical society. The tool arrived 3 days after the order, I was delighted. The tool was so easy to use, it was like writing with a kids big pen. The flow was fantastic, and I got many compliments, like "did you really do this?" It just fit my hand and was so comfortable to use. The cord was cumbersome at the beginning, but I found if I wrapped it behind my arm, it was pliable enough and didn't get in the way. BTW, we made $650.00. I kept the engraver for my own use. I have done several Christmas presents with a personal message. Thanks AMAZON.COM....Kay

I engraved my guns, laptop, tools, tvs, video game systems etc, all with the included bit and it worked great. Depending on the setting and material, I was generally able to write as I would with a pen.

I use this to mark on keys so we know what lock they open, works perfect.
Also used it to mark company name on some tools.
I learned pressing hard is a bad idea, you loose control. It is better to just press light and do a second pass if necessary.
When a key is first done it is a bit light/hard to read but once you use it a bit, and I assume dirt gets into the tiny line it is much more visible, especially on the brass keys.
I find it easy to hold and control. There is a "speed" setting but I never change it. I don't use it heavily. If I did I might take the time to figure out what works best. I have only used it on metal, many different types, but not glass. I did also use it once on hard plastic and it worked well.

After all, my wife and I have gone through close to a dozen hand-held pruning saws during the 20+ years we've lived on our property. Those pruning saws always cut well when new but seem to get dull very quickly. With their close set, needle-like teeth they're also difficult to sharpen - and I've sharpened regular saws using saw sets and files. Eac...
