My pocket knife/multi-tool broke, so after much debating I replaced it with the Dime. I admit that in large part it was because of the appeal of the pliers, something I didn't have before, but it also fit the size requirement. I wanted something as small as my last one – something that could truly fit in a pocket. I discovered that factor alone limits the options.

Designed for lightweight tasks this all metal multi-tool has good utility – but it should not be over-taxed. That seems like an obvious statement, even more so when the tool is actually in-hand and the size becomes a reality. The individual implements are all functional, but also quite small. This is a perfect example of the importance of selecting the right tool for the job.

After a week I have used most of the pieces and they all work well. The tools, with the exception of the pliers, are all located on the outside perimeter, so pulling the two main sections apart is only necessary to access the pliers/wire cutter.

Opening and closing was initially quite tight, but it is loosening-up with use. The scissors cut light plastic without a problem. The knife cut through orange peel, scraped a bit of old paint off a screw and helped pry two plastic parts, apart. The wire cutter cut through small gauge wire without a problem.

Although, I was without my last multi-tool for just over a week, when I left the house it seemed like I was forgetting or missing something – like my keys or glasses. Handy and useful when no other tools are available, and, while it does not replace full-size tools, I use it almost every day. If quality problems are encountered I will update, but so far I am very pleased with the solid metal weight of the tool. It is small but has substance.

The Dime is like a miniaturized tool box. It's small so it only does small jobs but the quality of the tools in the Dime can get it done. Used where appropriate, this is a high value and quality tool set. It's become my EDC muli-tool.

I have had a small pocket knife for almost my whole professional career. They get lost and I have to replace them. My previous one did not have scissors and it is amazing how often I need them. So when I saw this one in an article about the best TSA legal pocket knives, I had to try it.
I love it! It is truly small and although thicker than my previous knife, the weight and shape are comfortable; even in shorts. I didn't think I would need the pliers, but I have found them handy for getting things out of tight spaces; better than tweezers.

I've decided to do my reviews using bullet points. Just easier for me I guess.

1. A 2 star reviewer stated that he was looking for a key chain multi tool. This thing is not heavy but is too heavy for a key chain. He also stated that opening the tool scratched the finish off. This can be avoided by starting to open the tool then pull it apart which time it almost seems spring loaded and will snap into plier mode. And honestly, if you're gonna use it as a key chain, i think it's gonna get scratched a bit, and not just on the hinge.

2. Honestly, the reason I bought this tool is for the package opener that is soooo friggin awesome. Im so sick of sliding my knife into packaging and scratching stuff. Very intelligent thing to add to a tool. Thank you Gerber.

3. It's well made and thought out. The tolerances are awesome and found no side to side play in any of the tools. The tools do not lock but they do sorta "Snap" out so thats a plus.

4 Assembled with Torx screws so it can be taken apart, modified, cleaned etc. I think I saw a vid on youtube where a guy totally modified it very cool. Torx will also help if you wanna tighten up any areas where the tools are due to lack of locks.

5. It's reall cool. Once you get to a certain point of openinng it it "snaps" open like it has an assist. Of course pliers are spring assisted.

6. It's $14.00 People. Thats like 2 coffee's at starbucks. Everyone should be issued one of these. Im sorta sarting to have a thing for small multi tools lately so Im sure I wil have more reviews. I bought the Leatherman style and will definately giving a review on that.

7. Closing. Awesome little fun tool to have. Get it. Just remember it is, what it is!! A small multi tool for ocasional use!

8. Knife has double bevel which is nice compared to a competitor that only had one side of blade sharpened.

9. Dont forget the semi hidden tweezers. I havent had a chance to deploy themto use but will most likely get a chance to see if they are effective at removing ticks. I think thats where companinies hat add a tweezers to their tools need to look. their are tick tweezers designed out teir with specific shape and stiffness, We'll see

This is a high quality tiny multi-tool that I can almost forget is in my pocket. I've bought the little multi-tools made in china and they're junk that falls apart instantly. This is more along the quality lines of the large Gerber or Leatherman multi-tools (I prefer Gerber over Leatherman but both are quality lines). I almost always carry a large Gerber on my belt, but if I'm dressed nice, this little guy goes in my pocket instead.

You can't do heavy work with it, but for minor screws or pulling something out with the pliers, it's amazingly handy (I can pick slivers with these pliers; they fit that good). It has a bottle opener, too which is built into the handle and works much better than the fold-out one on my big multi-tool (which sometimes pierces or deforms the bottle cap the first couple of tries).

The little flat blade actually has worked on every philips screw I've tried. This thing is small so you won't be driving 3" wood screws with it, but opening a battery cover or tightening the loose screw on a doorknob or something is a snap. The little scissors work great for trimming my nails and nipping loose threads off my clothes. There's a little digger blade that's actually designed for slicing into those blister packs that everything comes packaged in these days. If you use that, you don't risk slicing your own hand when the blade slips and it seems to work better than a blade at slicing plastic packages open.

I bought one and loved it, then my girlfriend loved it even more and I've bought her one and a couple for other friends. The quality is very high for this price. I have one in my backpack and one in the ashtray of my truck. I keep a full size multi-tool in the door pocket and I have a full tool bag in the back of the truck, but I still reach for this little guy all the time.

Even if you buy it and hate it, you can give it to a friend and they'll be impressed.

I bought this tool for my girlfriend, because she is always searching for a screwdriver, scissors, or knife. She loved the purple finish, and I have to admit, it was sharp looking. The package arrived just two days after ordering and came in the standard retail packaging. This tool is very small, but well made when compared to some generic mini-tools I have seen. It is also backed by Gerber's lifetime warranty, so what's not to like. The blade came fairly sharp, but my favorite feature of this tool is the package opener. I can't tell you how handy that feature is. It is nice it has a bottle opener, which my Crucial lacks, as it is one of the most frequently needed features! The scissors are what you would expect, and the file I could do without, but it may come in handy some day. The tweezers are small, but I think would be effective in removing a small splinter. The pliers are spring loaded which is very nice, and they are capable of cutting small wire or cable ties. This tool is definitely small enough to put in your pocket, or to attach to your keys. I am not one who likes a large key ring, so for not it is going in my pocket, and replacing my Gerber Crucial as my everyday carry tool.

If I had to list some draw backs to this mighty-mini, I would start with the fact that the tools do not lock. While the click into place, there is no positive locking mechanism. The bottle opener does not fold in, so it is kind of sticking out there the whole time. Not a huge drawback, but it seems out of place. I with this little tool had a pocket clip. This is the feature I will miss on my Crucial. I worry that it may fall out of my pocket without being clipped, and I don't want it on my key ring... Dilemmas, dilemmas...

This is a great EDC tool for lightweight jobs. It is not meant to do the heavy lifting of a full size tool, but what it gives up in robustness, it makes up for in convenience and portability. This is my new EDC tool, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting the versatility of a multi-tool in a small package.

I love the Dime, I have yet to see a better keychain multitool with a easy access bottle opener like this.

The package opener is great, the knife is super sharp, screw drivers are strong enough for easy jobs, scissors are strong and sharp, and the pliers are pretty useful, even the tweezers are nice.

The only disclaimer is be realistic with your expectations of a tiny keychain based tool. Can you crush the handles while using the pliers if you squeeze as hard as possible? Oh for sure. You may snap off the screwdrivers too if you are trying to undo something factory tightened with a power tool. If you go in expecting this to replace a leatherman or real pliers then you will be disappointed. This is something for small easy jobs when you are in a pinch like opening a laptop panel or tightening up a jiggly door handle, but primarily it is a bottle and package opener or thread snipper with some added functionality.

The Gerber Dime should not be your solution as an everyday tool. I look at it as a tool that is compact enough to carry without getting in the way. If I have access to larger tools, like at home, in the car, or at the office, I'm going to use the full size tools. On trips where the need for tools are likely, I'll take a full size multi-tool. The little Dime comfortably fits in the fifth pocket of my jeans and is there if I need it. It's not going to replace a larger tool, but it does give you options in situations where you don't want to carry the bulk of a larger tool. It will tighten a lose screw, trim a hanging thread from your clothing, open the battery compartment on a toy, or pull a reset jumper from a computer motherboard.
I've used Swiss Army knives before and they are quality tools. My problem with the smaller Swiss Army tools is that they lack pliers. I have a Leatherman Squirt and found the pliers to be very useful at times. The Dime is very close to the Squirt, but has a few extra features that I found appealing.
The Dime has a set of tweezers similar to those found on a Swiss army knife. They work great for the occasional sliver, or when you're working with tiny sunglass or watch screws. I also like the package opener tool that comes with the Dime. It keeps the knife blade from getting dull and sticky while opening packages. The knife blade on the Dime has a double bevel blade which I can sharpen better than the single bevel blade on the Squirt. The bottle opener on the Dime actually works, while I've found the Squirt version to be too small. The pliers, screw drivers, and scissors are about equal on both tools. Unlike the Squirt, the Dime is held together by screws and can be disassembled if need be.
I purchased the black Dime and have not had a problem opening the tools. It was ten dollars below the price of a similar Squirt.

I have been carrying the Gerber Dime for over 3 years and I can honestly say it is the perfect multifunction tool. I find myself using my Gerber Dime every day for one thing or another. The package opener is awesome. Boxes, plastic, you name it. The package opener also keeps a good edge. The screwdrivers are great for the little screw on the battery cover of kids toys. Great shape and fit on all little screw. I use the pliers more than I though I would, good grip and good leverage for little things. The bottle opener is the greatest thing since slice bread. Most tops are twist off but it's so nice to have when you need to pop a top on a non twist off cap. Will open paint cans too. I did return my first one to Gerber, the screw popped out and I paid $2.75 for shipping and tracking back to Gerber and I had a new dime in a couple of weeks, so the lifetime warranty is true to what they claim. There are some many opportunities to use it I can't name them all. Love this little multi tool. Fits nicely in your pocket and it's not big and bulky, just a little bigger than a tube of chapstick.
