Once in a while you come across a product that not only does everything it's supposed to do, but actually exceeds your expectations in doing so. This is one of those products. I've had more utility knives than I can count over the years, and because I'm in the materials field, I use them literally daily when I'm at work. So I have a clear understanding of these knives functionality and this one is absolutely the best I've ever used.
The features pretty much speak for themselves. The blade opens and the knife cuts like just about every other knife on the market, and it carries a spare blade (as opposed to it's otherwise identical sister knife, the 48-22-1901).
But where this one excels is the ease of use. The one handed flip thing is off the chain (as utility knives goes). And while the slide out blade knives are also one handed to use, they're also significantly larger than this one. So I can actually slide this one inside my jeans pocket with the clip on the outside rather than have to wear it on my belt or outside my pocket. This is a big plus when you're constantly rubbing up against all manner of equipment and boxes as I do on an offshore oil rig. And another plus is the interchangeability of the blade. This one is fast and easy, and doesn't pull out when you're really pulling the blade hard against a double walled box. The blade is always secure. And finally, the wire stripper/line cutter is a really nice touch to an already wonderful knife.
All in all.....great knife, Milwaukee, and I'd give you ten stars if I could. This is a real picture of great design, engineering, and manufacturing.

This is a new knife from Milwaukee based in the incredibly popular and very nice fastback utility knife. I've had the utility knife version for a few years and it's perfect.
This version is advertised as a "swing open" knife. This version is a single blade knife more like a folding hunting knife than a utility knife.
So what's good about it:
- The ergonomics of the fastback handle are perfect for me - there is an indentation for your index finger in just the right spot. It feels really good in your hand. It's thin. It's pretty light.
- The blade is great. It's about 3 inches long thick heavy stainless steel with a very sharp edge out of the package. It locks open tight.
- This is a big heavy duty knife you can carry in your pocket. It feels very well built and will no doubt last a long time.
What do I not like:
- Unlike the original fastback - the handle is plastic. It's heavy duty plastic, feels like the same stuff they make their power tools out of, but not metal like my old fastback. The plastic is thinner than the metal handle and probably lighter, and has a bit more grippiness. Functionally it's probably better, but I can't help feeling they cheapened the product a bit.
- The blade doesn't swing open with a flip of the knife like the fastback utility does. First off the joint is too tight, but secondly, the blade doesn't have enough weight at the tip to swing. They do make another version of this with a spring loaded blade, but I liked the contour of this blade better.
- There is a somewhat hidden blade lock inside the blade slot. Not sure why they didn't make the button into the blade lock - perhaps they thought the user might push the button in use, unlock the blade and cut himself, but they didn't have it that way on the original fastback utility knife. This and the non swinging blade make it a two handed knife - you can't open it or very easily close it with one hand. That's one of the features I really love about the original fastback.
Ok so that's it - nice heavy duty pocket knife, great ergonomics, seems sturdy built; with a couple features I didn't really care for. To be honest, if I never had the original fastback I wouldn't have complained at all about any of my dislikes. The original was so good, I guess it was hard to live up to. 4 stars. Edit - After another couple months of use, I'm raising this to 5 stars. This is a great knife. I've used it in all kinds of situations and have'nt had any problems at all. It works great.

This utility knife was made for for someone who uses a utility knife every day.
You can pull it out of your pocket, flip it open, make your cuts, flip it closed, and
put it back in your pocket all without taking your eyes of your work.
It may be faster to put it back in your pocket than to set it down on something and then have to look for it.
Features:
The push button flip open action is fast and easy.
The push button blade change is quick and easy.
The on board magnetic (one) blade storage is handy and doesn't add bulk.
The shaped handle feels comfortable in use and the finger cutout gives you a solid grip.
The wire belt clip is excellent, you can clip it to you pocket without looking and do it effortlessly.
It has a "gut hook" to let you cut up to 7/32" rope or wire with the knife closed.
It has a wire stripping notch (which I lack the talent to use effectively).
It's Milwaukee Red so it's easy to find (unless you drop it in on a red background)
It's very well made.
Cons?
I spent $16 on a utility knife.
The blade cut depth is fixed.
It's made in China

This utility knife from MILWAUKEE is exceptional in all ways that it is designed for. The blade in it easily comes out with the push of a button and the blade also locks in pushing the same button and it holds in tight. There is also an arm that folds into the handle to put in an extra blade, in case you may need one. It holds into the handle pretty tight, it feels like it is held back with a spring. This utility knife also has a great hand feel to it, it's not to wide and not to skinny. If it was skinnier it would be annoying and harder to hold while cutting things. It also has a pocket clip on the backside which I will remove because I'll never use it. The clip however is a strong one that does not seem likely to break off anytime soon. The main blade also flips out with the push of a button and the spare blade is held in with a magnet.

Woah!!! This is really great. Highly recommended. Very tough.
Now if only I could get the other guys on my crew to always carry a utility knife... they are gonna steal my any day, I just know it...

I use mine every day. The previous model, the Fastback I was also excellent. The extra blade feature appealed to me enough that I bought this one even though I already had the first version. The new model is a bit wider to accommodate the extra blade. If you do not need the extra blade, the original is actually a little better because of its thinner profile. These are designed so that they can be disassembled by four small screws, keep in mind that those screws can become loose so watch them if you abuse these things the way I do. Blade changes are a breeze and the flip action makes one handed open and closure effortless with some practice.

At the time of this review I have had this item for a few months an I can unequivocally state that this is the best flip utility knife I have ever used! I love pocket knives, and I carry one daily however there is one area where a traditional blade pocket knife falls short and that is cardboard. I don't care how sharp your pocket knife is, after a few cuts on some sturdy cardboard you are back to the sharpening stone.
This flip utility knife from Milwaukee utilizes disposable razor utility blades which cut through cardboard like there's nothing to it. First impressions of this knife was that it looks like a solid, quality made product, assumptions that are quickly confirmed upon picking it up for the first time. It has some weight to it, not to much, but you know you will not be breaking this when exerting pressure while cutting carpet for example.
Changing blades is a cinch and the spare razor blade holder that is concealed within the handle is a very nice touch for always keeping a spare blade handy.
All in all I am very satisfied with this item and I must say that it was well worth the money.

A little big for a conventional pocket knife but I will use it for a work knife. Flips open easily and very well made. I have a smaller folding knife to carry day to day. This will be carried for the more substantial jobs. Very happy with it.

I really liked this knife. I ended up buy a different knife that was larger in case there is a terrorist attack at our office I can throw the knife at the guys neck who is holding the AK-47. This is a good knife for when you need to cut things. It closes and locks. You push the button on the side and the knife will open effortlessly. I gave this knife to a co-worker who didn't have a knife of his own. He still has it and uses it often.

I've been using this utility knife, on a daily basis, for a little more than 2 years. Though I've chipped some of the paint off... this knife still functions perfectly. One of the best features is that it allows you to store extra blades in the handle. You'll appreciate this feature when you're out in the field.
Obviously, since the knife relies on replaceable blades... cutting performance will be dependent upon your personal blade selection.
