Gerber Diesel Multi-Plier, Black [22-01545N]

  • Rugged and reliable design in all our products
  • Can be used in various military, hunting, survival, tactical, industrial and outdoor situations
  • All products are field tested
With its industrial strength, easy handling, and super versatility, the Gerber 22-01545 Diesel Black Needlenose Multi-Plier offers everything you need to tackle tough tasks and tricky problems. The Diesel Black has all of the features of the original, plus it sports a non-reflective black finish. It showcases a robust design with 12 stainless steel tools that are larger and more durable than average, along with Gerber's patented Saf.T.Plus component locking system and the convenience of quick, wrist-flick deployment.
Bigger, Stronger, Job-Specific Tools
Whether you're at work, in the middle of an epic road trip, or taking some time off to get reacquainted with the natural world, you'll find that the strength and durability of the Diesel often come to your rescue. Crafted from high-quality stainless steel, the Diesel offers a thicker-than-average blade with a versatile, half-serrated edge. And when the task at hand calls for more than a knife alone can handle, you'll appreciate the way the Diesel's 11 other tools give you a real leg up.
Job-specific tools make any task safer and easier to accomplish quickly. That's why this tool also includes a cross-point screwdriver, small, medium, and large flat-blade screwdrivers, a can opener, a bottle opener, a file, a saw, and scissors, as well as a dedicated wire cutter/stripper.
Unlike the bulky squared-off pliers on many multi-tools, the needle-nose pliers at the center of this tool are designed to fit in tight spots. Plus they can be opened quickly using one flick of the wrist, which makes working with them easy, intuitive, and one-handed.
Safe, User-Friendly Design for Peace of Mind
If you've ever had a folding knife close on your hand in the middle of making a tough cut, you'll have a special appreciation for Gerber's patented Saf.T.Plus system, which locks each component securely in place for worry-free use.
The refined lock and sliding buttons associated with this system are easy to use, and they're intuitively placed on the tool's handle for easy access.
Despite its broad range of features, this tool weighs just 8.6 ounces. It measures 6.61 inches overall and 4.92 inches closed. The handle is well-balanced for comfortable use and showcases an elegant bead blast finish.
This Gerber Multi-Tool also comes with a nylon ballistic-cloth sheath so that you can keep it protected when it's not in use.
Gerber's History of Ingenuity
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.

So, every day, I put this multi-tool on my belt and go to work. I can almost always count on finding a use for it. Whether it's cutting through a zip-tie, or getting a stuck screw out with the pliers or cutting through something with the scissors. I literally uses this mulit-tool every day. I've never really liked multi-tools, but a guy I work with has a Gerber multi-tool that he got 18 years ago. It is definitely an older model but basically the same idea (the pliers slide out of the tool) He said that his multi-tool is still serving him very well after 18 years of use (we work in an auto parts store, so we use tools a lot.) I think the most useful tool on the actual multi-tool are the scissors. They fold up so conviently and they are both strong and sharp. I probably have used them the most. I've had the Multi-Pliers for about four months now, and I can't put into words how much easier they have made my daily life. I never go anywhere without them. You get a lot of confused and interested looks from people when you whip the Mulit-Pliers out and slide the pliers out.

The Leatherman mulit-tools are good, they're a classic and all, but seriously, I can't stand the pinching of the hands when you fold them and go through all the work to expose the pliers. With the Multi-Pliers, you take it out of the pouch and with a simple snap of the wrist, you're ready to us it in any way you can think of. I think the best feature about the Multi-Pliers is that they are easy to use. You can be lazy and use one hand to open them up (I can take out and tool with only one hand.) It's so easy and fun to use. When I first got the Multi-Pliers in the mail, I ripped it out of the box and immediately started practicing with them. I must have spent three hours opening and closing them. By the end of the night, I was able to deftly swish my wrist and open up the knife within 5 seconds. When you first get them, they are kind of rough and sticky, but after an hour or two of opening and closing them, they become naturally lubricated and it is a breeze.

There is only one thing that I can leave you with, if you don't like the price tag on this awesome spectacle of human ingenuity, overlook that, save up for a couple of weeks and BUY THEM!!!! This are absolutely the best Multi-tool on the planet.

I own quite a few multi-tools and its almost a fight everyday between this and my leatherman charge tti, and my Gerber diseil wins most of the time!!! Its a tool you can beat on with out that feeling of "omg this cost 100+ bucks and I don't want to mess it up". The blade is razer sharp and the pliers are super strong. The tools are tough and the black coating seems to never wear off. This tool saved me NYC when I was about to be mugged and the pliers sticking out in the closed position did a number on my muggers head as he actually cried laying and rolling on the floor, the second time was out camping in up state NY and all of the people I was with thought camp fires started out of thin air... in a short explination but its saw cut wood with ease and blade stood up to batoning wood and still made a feather stick as tinder!!! Over all this the multi-tool to keep on your side, and after all that said I hate Gerber and majority of there china made products but this product and the rest of there us made line up are true wilderness and every day carry perfection, point blank.

I've had this multi tool for a year now with no complaints. As you can see from the photo it rides nicely in an HSGI taco pouch on the front of my tac vest. Most of the guys at my department carry a Gerber. Good price on a very reliable product. Recommend to anyone who works in the field and needs one tool for a multitude of tasks...

I bought these when I was working in IT for a myriad of purposes (phone lines, computers, etc.) and they worked great. Today, I carry them with me every day to work and they've served me well. I've used these pliers for everything from opening cans to sawing, cutting out splinters, filing metal edges, and anything else under the sun. This is by far my favorite multi-tool and I fully anticipate buying the same thing when these wear out...which may be 20 years from now at the current rate of decay. Everything is still sharp (without having to sharpen it) and there isn't a spot of rust on it.

To be honest I have not done much with it yet, I keep it in my bike pack for a “just in case”. This is a heavy and very sturdy tool. Some people have complained that the black finish comes off on their hands, and yes it does if you don’t wipe it down before using it. I simply scrubbed it with a cotton rag before doing anything with it, problem solved.

Positives: Solidly built, well machined, has a saw blade, all blades lock, has a nice feel to it.
Negatives: Slightly on the heavy side, black finish needs to be wiped before use.

Ok, this bad boy arrived right on on time, but the packaging was all messed up. I sitting down, opening her up, the tool inside the sheath fell out and hit me in the nuts. I was not happy. Then I opened the sheath and started to examine this tool. I was skeptical of the quality of this multitool because the pliers were pretty loose when closed and the didnt lock in the closed position. This made me question whether or not to return this item. I continued inspect all of the tools and at that point I realised I never wanted to be without this thing. The knife was super sharp, the saw was pretty nifty, the screw drivers all worked great, the can and bottle openers did the job and when opened the pliers were actually pretty firm and strong. I even filed a rough metal edge to smooth perfection with the file. I love this tool. I will always have this on me. Maybe there are better multitools out there, but I love this one a whole lot! Its not perfect so I would recommend this only to real men who dont complain about every little thing.

I like it. I was first issued a Gerber by the USAF in '91 and found it so useful that I'm rarely without one now. I've had several Leatherman tools as well, but for everyday carry/use, it's a Gerber for me. I love the one hand operation; there's something satisfying about the one handed flick that snaps the pliers into position. I've never broken a Gerber, my only (minor) gripe is the carry pouches. I've worn out several so far. I've picked up a Maxpedition carry pouch for this one, so we'll see how it works.

I picked up this tool as it was on sale and had a couple of tools my current one doesn't - needle nose and scissors - which are a bit more useful in my current job. Yes, you can get some black marks on your hands from handling a new black Gerber, it's happened with all of mine - it's a by product of the coating process, and goes away with use.

I have an old (25+ years) Gerber multi-tool that has never failed me. I have used it for every possible purpose, includign some it wasn't designed for. The only thing I have ever had an issue with was a desire to have the long-nose version (mine is the old broad nose plier). At this price, I had to get it. The toughest part now is how to decide which one to carry.

I did a lot of research on getting a utility knife, and I've been very pleased with the Gerber Diesel so far.

I fly as a pilot and wanted something that had the basics for a survival knife (a good serrated knife, a saw - especially good for thick nylon if needed, phillips & flat head, pair of pliers, wire cutters, scissors, and even a bottle opener which is nice afterwards), but I also wanted something light, which this definitely is for having so much.

The biggest advantage I saw over the MP600 was that Diesel has a saw blade, which the MP600 does not.

I really like the safety features on it with all locking blades that open towards the center, so you never have to worry about it inadvertently opening.

The black oxide is a must with this model. The stainless did not appear to be solid stainless steel, and the black oxide just feels sturdier. The black oxide definitely looks better too.

You know your listening to a cheap TV commercial when you hear that corny line "This product replaces 20 tools!" well I don't know if that is true or not but, I DON"T GO ANYWHERE WITH OUT THIS ONE! Let me start by saying I am your classic do it yourself-er. I have tools for everything. Despite loving tools, I cant stand carrying them all with me. Why? well. People steal, they take up too much space, no matter how many you take along for the ride you never have all the ones you need, blah blah blah the list goes on. Well, this one is the right size, is sturdy, well designed, and has the most commonly needed tools all in one perfect little pouch.

You might think oh gees $50 bucks. are you crazy? No. I have gone through so many multi-tools over the years it is starting to get ridiculous. Most only lasting 6 months before a screw pops out, something dulls, bends, rusts, or it justs falls apart at the seams...... yes that dose happen. I have the parts to proof it. Well I have had this Multi-tool for over 18 months and she is running just as strong as she did on day one. The paint has faded a little, but when you torture tools like I do there is just no getting around that. Over all, this is one of the best tools I have ever invested in, and i suspect it will last a long time to come!
