Power, power, power is what you get. The all-metal gear case and diaphragm add a little heft to Milwaukee's drill, but the performance is unbeatable. Further, for such a heavy drill, it sits nicely in hand, thanks to the ergonomic grip and comfortable, longer trigger. Kudos to Milwaukee designers for placing the reversing switch at your trigger fingertip. The all-metal keyed chuck is built for a long work life and will see thousands of half-inch shank bits in its time. You’ll love the included side handle if you’re going to be working this tool for any length of time, as it is a heavy piece. It's a workhorse. The quality is unsurpassed.

I bough tthis drill and it is great. The torque is enough for any job you will run into for a hand drill. It runs 2-1/2" forestner bits without any difficulty. It also offers very smooth easy to control variable speed trigger. The only thing I was disappionted in was that I like having cases for my tools and this one didn't come with one. Milwaukee will sell you one for ($$$) but I would rather make my own than pay that much for a box.

I had done my research and narrowed my choices down to this drill and a hitachi. I purchased the hitachi. The first thing I will say about that is I didn't hate the drill, but it was far to powerful for what I needed. That then leads to the fact that it busted itself within a month of use. I am still trying to work with Hitachi to get it repaired or get my money back.
I debated a long time whether to purchase a new drill while the other was still warm from it's death, and I did. This was a great decision, because the Milwaukee drill was exactly what I wanted and should have bought to begin with. GREAT DRILL. Wish it had a nice case.

these are great drills! I've had a few over the years even gave a bigger model away because it was a finger breaker lol if you get it bound it wont stop! This bad boy has many years of hard service coming to it and I know from the past drill like it that it can sure take it!

I bought this drill based on a tool shootout of high amperage 1/2 inch drills in tools of the trade magazine. This drill came out head and shoulders above the offerings from hitatchi, makita, dewalt, portercable and bosch. The highlights of this drill are gobs of torque(It will twist your arm if you are not careful!) solid yet lightweight construction, a long, heavy gauge ruber 3 prong cord, a heavy duty keyed chuck. I picked this drill up at the home depot during a tool trade in promotion(traded in an old single speed metal bodied black and decker 3/8th drill.) I have been so impressed at the capabilities of this drill. It has driven 4 inch long 3/8ths lag screws without a problem. It will stir a paddle bit in drywall mud and drive up to a 2 and 9/16ths self feed bit. This is one incredible tool. I will be replacing the keyed chuck with a keyless though.

While I am not a professional craftsman, I do have a good amount of tools which I use for all type projects (home, auto, marine, outdoor, etc.) and consider myself fairly handy (though my wife may say that the jury is still out on that one). Ever since childhood, my dad taught me to look for tools (or other things) that are well-made, durable and will last a long time (even if more expensive). We seem to now live in an age where products are disposable, where it is cheaper to buy a new item rather than purchase its component parts and replace them when they go out, which is a sad thing indeed. However, there are some products that are still made with quality, with durability and with longevity in mind. This drill is one of those products.
Some may prefer the battery-powered type drill. I've never found those to have enough power and when using them for a long time, I dislike the added heft/weight by having what is usually a large brick of a lithium-ion battery attached to the bottom of the drill handle. This drill has a nice weight and a tremendous amount of power/torque. Drill bits/tips are easy to swap out and this never fails to get the job done. Though some may prefer the "mobility" of a cordless, battery-powered drill, this one is just as "mobile" - that's why extension cords were invented. Get yourself US Wire 65050 12/3 50-Foot SJTW Orange Heavy Duty Extension Cord (USA made too) and you'll be set.
Milwaukee products are, for the most part, well-made and this drill is no exception. I've had mine for years now, put it through a large amount of work, and it's still nearly as it was straight out of the box. Highly recommend this product if you're in the market for a (new) drill and, while you're at it, pick up the excellent Milwaukee 48-89-1105 1/16-to-1/2-Inch Titanium-Coated 20-Piece Twist Drill Bit Assortment and Milwaukee 48-32-1700 Insert Bit Screw Driving Set, 20-Piece. Incidentally, this drill can be purchased at Home Dep*t for roughly $119.00.

I really like Milwaukee tools and have several, all fine quality. It's really too bad Milwaukee has chosen to move much of its production to Taiwan and China; this drill was made in China. The quality certainly seems to be there. Hope they can bring some production back to the US as Chinese production costs continue to slowly rise.

Extremely impressive drill. And I'm not easy to impress on mech tools; I have a masters degree in mechanical engineering. So I can look at a tool like this and I can tell immediately if design is very good and if best materials were used.
I've had this drill for several years. This drill is so powerful, I've mixed concrete that half filled a 5 gallon bucket.
WARNING: this drill is so powerful, it can sprain or break your wrist if used without the side grip handle for applications thatr require a lot of torque (and thus transmit high reverse torque into your wrist!). Always hold this drill very firmly with TWO hands, and better to be safe and attach and use the side grip handle so the torque doesn't break your wrist
NO, I've never damaged my wrist using this drill. I follow above safety rules.

This drill is an awesome addition to my shop. My old non-name brand drill had a cheap chuck and was really noisy, this is smooth and has a quality chuck. Very nice for the money.

Best drill out there . Had one for 20 years , was still going strong. It was stolen from my truck . Bought the same kind . Can't go wrong . This drill will break your wrist, be careful. A half inch drill in a three eights inch size .
