This is a great product. Very solid and well constructed and should last a lifetime...I can't imagine ever breaking this. The snap-collar 1/4 retainer holds bits securely. It is pretty big, but I purchased this to enable me to run drywall screws with my Hitachi 3/8 drive impact wrench, so fitting it into tight spaces is not much of an issue to me. I'm also not sure how you could make it that much smaller, as you have to leave room for the 3/8 drive shank, as well as the shank on the 1/4-inch bit.
The 3/8 drive on this tool is definitely designed to work with a ball-detent type retention system. My impact uses a friction ring retainer, and it is slightly difficult to get on and off. This also causes the adapter to sit on the tool a little sloppily, but not so much so that it causes me any problems driving screws. I wish Milwaukee made a friction-ring version of this tool in addition to the ball-detent type, but it's really not that big of a deal. This is the only downside that I have seen with this tool, and I consider it to be a problem with how I am using it rather than the design itself. 5 stars!

I got this tool to add to my Milwaukee 3/8" drive battery impact wrench. I fix cars for a living and wanted something I could use around the dash inside the car, it's small and has little to catch on things and yet it's powerful. This tool goes on the 3/8 square drive end and you can put quick change bits in and out (screwdrivers etc) rapidly. I found that with this I could use that tool constantly not just in dash work in fact it's out all the time now and it's become my go to tool. If you have a stuck screw even on something like a brake drum, this tool in conjunction with the impact tool and a number 3 phillips will remove it faster than one of those hand impact tools that you pound on with a hammer. I highly recommend this tool and the Milwaukee brand in general.

First off, buy from Home Depot, it's cheaper. I just got it so can't tell you the longevity of it but it seems very good quality, I expect it to last. I attach it to my Milwaukee 3/8 impact wrench with friction ring and it holds on pretty well, like others have said it does have a little wobble to it, but when driving screws, you're applying pressure so it wont wobble anymore. $15 for this vs $130 for an impact driver, plus this is a lot stronger. You decide.

This is a very well made adapter, It locks the hex bit very securely and the doesn't wiggle like most adapters I buy, this one definitely competes with the Snap-On version for a lot less money-by the way there is a 1/4 hex to 1/4 drive version of this by Wera tools if you can't find one-Amazon didn't find it until I bought this one

I bought this to go along with my DeWalt cordless impact tool, I chose the square drive version impact wrench so that I could use it with sockets. You can use the 1/4 inch hex version of the impact tool with sockets but you need an adapter which will take a lot of the power out of the impact wrench. This adapter works perfectly and is very well made, feels solid. I like it so much that I also ordered the 1/2" square version as well. I have to admit that I haven't used any other brands of these but I believe they are of excellent quality and not too big as to cause clearance problems. The release mechanism works every time and I would highly recommend these.

This should come standard with the M18 3/8 Milwaukee impact wrench I bought. Works great. No problems so far...this adapter makes it quick and easy to switch from home drill use to heavy duty lug nut wrench.

Works as it should, and the price was reasonable. I use this adapter with a dewalt 3/8 cordless impact to remove splash guards from vehicles.

This thing is exactly what I've been looking for. It turned my pneumatic 3/8" ratchet into a really low profile right angle screwdriver. The other adapters like it on the market aren't even as low profile as this one is. It has a locking mechanism for the bit so you have to pull down on the conical head to release the screwdriver bit so bits don't fall out. It works beautifully with my Dewalt Screw Lock magnet thing on their 2" bits and it'll work nicely with any bit >1".
The only potential downside is that you really have to use extra long screwdriver bits with it, as the 1/4" female socket it uses is really deep.
