I like Dewalt tool i own most of the 18 volt line up. I also buy all dewalt bits and accessories. But there 1/2-Inch Square by 1/4-Inch Hex Adapter wasnt up to par so i bought Milwaukees 48-03-4410 Shockwave 1/2-Inch Square by 1/4-Inch Hex Adapter. I really like this one its a little shorter and much better built do yourself a favor if you need this adapter buy this one save yourself some money.

I got this adapter so I could use my 1/2" corded impact wrench to drive small-diameter lag screws such as Simpson Strong Drives and FastenMaster Timberloks and Trussloks. These lags typically have 5/16" and 3/8" heads-sizes for which 1/2" drive sockets aren't readily available but for which 1/4" hex drive impact sockets are. It works beautifully for this purpose. On a recent project, I used the adapter to drive about 30 6" Timberloks quickly and without a hitch.
My first copy of the 48-03-4410 was defective and broke immediately, which I believe was just a fluke, because the unit appears to be very well made. Amazon's awesome return service got a replacement to me very quickly, and, as noted above, it has performed flawlessly.

This is an awesome little gadget. It allows you to use an impact wrench with your screwdriver bits. This is very useful when you're doing heavy woodwork. E.g., I was building a heavy-duty work table out of 2x6s and 4x4s with anchor screws. Both my Bosch electric screwdriver and Makita hammer drill would start to run out of gas as the screws went deeper into the woodwork. Plus the bits would start to "walk out" of the screws. This was separate from the breakaway/strip-prevention torque issue. It's happened often enough on projects that I've been looking for an alternative. Enter this handy little item. Since an impact wrench resets itself and delivers full power with every blow, it doesn't run out of gas the way the screwdrivers/drill seem to. As a result, things are now a snap. Build quality is nice. Just make sure you use high grade bits so they don't shatter or twist. Very important! Make sure you consult with your suppliers to make sure their bits can hold up as I did.

This converts a 1/2" square drive impact wrench to a 1/4" hex driver, the standard size in so many screwdriver and small socket sets. It is designed to be used with bits that have a retainer groove, the upper bezel on the Milwaukee tool slides back so the tool can be inserted, then released so it is retained. Keep in mind that you need to use high quality bits, not cheap bits designed only for manual torque.
Great tool for those Phillips head screws that hold automotive brake rotors and drums (on older vehicles).

This appears to be the shortest 1/2 square adapter you can get. A standard 1/4 inch hex shank bit you insert will sink deep inside the quick release locking collar such that you can see the bottom of the shank, just right behind the edge of the 1/2 inch end (there's a small hole you can see through the opening). This essentially means the bit's shank will only be few millimeters from the tip of the tool's 1/2 square drive. You can't get any shorter than that.
Even though it's made in China, the build quality looks solid as you will come to expect from Milwaukee. The 1/4 shank bits stay locked in place until you release it by pulling back on the spring release collar. It's a bit more expensive than similar brand adapters, but I think it's worth the extra.
I only have ball/pin detents on my 1/2 impact wrench anvils (Makita and Craftsman cordless impact wrenches) but I saw a review about someone having problems using this adapter on a 1/2 anvil with a hog ring, so I thought I should mention it here just in case.

Buy this rather than the dewalt. Has lasted much longer than than both dewalts I tried combined. Side by side you can see and feel the build quality difference . Added another star, after two years it's still holding up. It doesn't get used all day every day but it has put many tappers through steel from 1/8" to 3/16 . This is the one to buy

Unfortunately they don't sell these at the big box stores. They're difficult to find but fortunately for you amazon carries them! This may be manufactured in China but I can attest that it's well engineered and good quality. At the tip there's a sleeve that you pull inwards. This allows you to slide in the 1/4" hex shank with ease. Once it's in, release the sleeve and give the hex shank a tug to ensure it's caught on the adapter. You'll find that the hex shank is solid and does NOT wobble. This is better than the OEM Ryobi adapter which is prone to sticking. Yet it's up to par with my higher end Japanese Makita Impact driver adapter.

I use this with my Dewalt DC820 impact driver and it has never let me down. The collar slides back to release the bits and is otherwise completely solid. I expect this to last forever. I would buy this again if I ever lost it.

This adapater allowed me to use my impact wrench as a bit driver. I have not used it much, but I like it so far. Feels durable. Very forceful when driving screws into something. Buy this if you want to use your impact wrench as a bit driver.

What can I say, this product is a must have for any tradesman. It comes into its own when torque above and beyond what a 1/4" impact driver can put out is required. All that's needed is to stick this adapter on to a 1/2" impact wrench and away you go.
It's a pity that Milwaukee is one of the few brands which feature something like this in their tools range.
