I have been a big fan of dewalt tools, I have a mix of Black and Decker items like my firestorm chop saw and it works very well and it over 10 years old, so when I was looking for a new sander I thought I'd try out the Black and Decker orbital. In todays world I already have a dewalt and it works well but I wanted a new one.
I've attached pics of the black and decker along with my dewalt so you can see how they look. From a performance standpoint, the black and decker is a bit louder than the dewalt but the black and decker actually has a better dust collection process (at least in my testing.). Both sanders utilize the same size stick on sand paper pads that you can buy from your local stores. From a feel, both sanders are actually pretty good in the hand, they utilize a similar palm grip and cord location/power switch location so it's a tie.
If you wanted to get a sander and asked for my recommendation, I would say the black and decker is a really good option and at the time of writing this it's half the cost of the black and decker orbital. If you are brand loyal of course you will go with the brand you love, but I would say give Black and Decker a chance, this sander works just as well as my Dewalt.

This little guy made refinishing my porch a breeze. Went right down to bare wood and it didn't miss a beat. At half the price of other brands/models, you can't go wrong. The dust bag does work (some people here complained about it) but don't expect to sand inside your house with your grandmother's fancy quilts laid out on the table. That wont happen with any sander. But I did notice that there was less dust in my face outside when the bag wasn't full so it does something. Overall, very happy with the purchase.

As far as I understand, this is basically the same as their previous model just with an updated look.

Before I bought this sander I had been using a small mouse sander for all of my work, but it would take me so long to cover large areas. I bought this one when I was planning on building a table, and I knew that I was going to have a lot of sanding for that project. I am so glad that I did. This sander did a wonderful job at getting the whole project sanded down quickly without leaving any marks.

I bought this to sand down an 8 foot wooden ladder that had a lot of red paint on it and got a lot of it sanded within an hour of getting it. This thing is perfect! Doesn't get hot at all...I love it! The only negative thing I have to say about it, the dust catcher, doesn't work well at all...but it has no affect on anything else!

Super easy to use, easy to hold, and works like a charm. I'm really surprised/happy to get something this useful for the inexpensive price this sander goes for.

This sander is very easy to use with the peel and stick sand paper. (Mirka). I purchased it mostly to sand and re-finish some older cutting boards. I also make yard art and table top crafts, and this sander is really great to smooth out the projects before painting. It's not too heavy for my "older woman, small hands" and I have lots of control with it. Great purchase!

I refer to this as my new favorite "Cleaning tool". We bought a foreclosure that was really dirty and rather than cleaning and sanding down base boards, cabinets, doors...etc, I let this sander do the "cleaning". It's very powerful. We've sanded drywall, pine cabinets and baseboards, CEMENT counter tops....with no performance issues whatsoever. It's ripped through every project I've used it for and my husband's been impressed. We should have used it for our bathroom popcorn ceiling removal over scraping.
I bought a companion pack of sanding disks. Pay attention and don't overuse a disk, that's where most problems stem from that I've seen reviewed.

I've been using various pads attached to a regular drill to do Bondo work on my 1986 Dodge Omni for the last twenty years. Since a drill has no random orbital element (other than the bearings wearing out) it puts lots of obvious scratches in the work, so you have to finish everything by hand. And the adhesive backed sandpaper discs that go on the cheapo adapters tend to fly off after a while, and if they get any dust on the back, they'll never stick again.
The Velcro-backed sandpaper for these newfangled random orbitals is expensive, but it stays on, and the vacuum/filter cuts way back on Bondo-lung. The filter is permanent, you just keep banging it out as it gathers dust. I probably put about thirty hours onto it this summer, so that's about a dollar an hour, not counting the sandpaper. Wish I'd bought a random orbital of any type twenty years ago.

This Black & Decker Random Orbital Sander is really addicting to use. I used it to sand down some pine I used to mod a cheap Ikea table. Worked perfectly to smooth down the table top I made. This thing only comes with one sanding pad so definitely pick up a pack also. I bought the Bosch multi-pack and it worked perfectly for me. When you use this sander don't put too much pressure. It actually does a worse job sanding. You want to give it light pressure and let it work on it's own. Make sure to empty out the dust bag otherwise it'll fly everywhere once it's full.
Definitely recommend this sander.

I bought this to sand down my cabinets and prep them for painting. It was super easy to use and left little dust behind. I didn't feel like the vibrations were too bad either (unlike other larger sanders I've used in the past). I bought the Mirka 23-615-AP Gold 5-Inch 8-Hole Dustless Hook-and-Loop Sanding Disks, 10 Each of 5 Grits to go with it and they are SO easy to use and really met my needs. I liked having the different types of grits for the different areas I was working on. I was having a hard time at first figuring out which types of sanding disks to use since this is my first purchase of this type of tool. I hope this helps someone else looking to answer that question.
