Cree xml2 u2 very bright light.... sturdy... the one i recieved did not have the bluefire logo on it and came with wrong battery... but seems to be a good light. 2 stars for not being what i ordered...
UPDATE... bluefire rep was very nice... took care of me for the battery... will purchace another when needed...
The light is very very bright but more of a flood patern not a spot patern at all... lights up whole area but doesnt teach as far as you would think.. will be looking to see if they have a simular light with more of a fucused beam. UPDATE... just bought a second one, still a darn good light i love the flashlight. pert neer indestructable. super super bright, downside still gets hot to the touch withing a few minutes being on. still sent a different battery than advertised. and still no bluefire logo, but still astonished by the quality of the light... great buy, havent found better... will be sending more business this way, just hope they change add to be a bit more honest about what they are sending.

One day I'll be able to say "no" when asked to review flashlights, but if it's a new generation or something different... well. This light uses the XM-L2 CREE bulb, while most of the ones sold today in this price range use the XML-T6. The L2 CREE has a max output of 1052 lumens, so 1100 is a slight exaggeration. It's a more efficient LED than the T6 and has a nicer pattern. If you've used the lights that can zoom in, you know that the pattern looks like an enlarged version of the LED light. The T6 looks like alternating lines. The L2 is a pattern of dots on a bright background. If not zoomed in, there's no recognizable difference in the light pattern.
Construction: Excellent. The threads where the tail cap attaches are anodized, as are the threads in the tail cap. Most lights in this price range (and down) machine the threads after the anodizing process. That's one reason you find so much bad threading. The area around where the tail cap attaches is also 2x as thick as cheaper lights. The inside edge could be a little cleaner - there were a couple of rough areas I decided to polish - but I'm a stickler. Most people would never notice. The lens is glass. Knurling and details are clean, and the gunmetal gray color looks modern and nice.
Weatherproofing: They claim IPX65 - that's 100% dust proof and proof from water jets. I dropped this in a 5 gallon bucket of water overnight and there was no leaking. The lens is sealed. There are two O-rings at either end of the body. I think you'd have to take this thing snorkeling to make it leak. IPX65 is conservative.
Battery: Just Google "18650 battery weight" - and prepare for a shock (no pun intended.) I use the weight method as a quick way to check an 18650 battery. I have a 2200mAh battery.

Honestly, I scoffed at the claim that this flashlight puts out 1100 lm. It's so small. And when I look at the lens and see the size of the LED bulb, it looks too small to go that right.
I don't have a meter that measures lumens, but I do have some extremely bright flashlights and headlamps which are rated at well over 1000 lm to compare this flashlight with.
Well upon turning it on and pointing it at my face, and not being able to see for a minute or so because of the afterimage, I would say that it is definitely on par with my brightest flashlights which are in the thousands lumens range.
So brightness is definitely quite intense. In addition to that, it's got a nice metal texture with all your typical military influenced corners and crevices. And I like the fact that it's gray, which differentiates it from all the black flashlights that I have.
The button press activates different flashing patterns by doing fast double presses.
And it's also great that it comes with a cord at the end to keep its from slipping out of your hand.
If there's one thing that I'm not all that crazy about, is that you're not able to change the width of the dispersion of the light. With most good flashlights you can pull the lens in and out and change the focus of the light beam. Oh well, not the end of the world.
Overall I like this flashlight a whole lot and all of the other positive characteristics overshadow the lack of focus ring.

Many manufacturers like to claim that their product is a "military-grade flashlight", but what does this really mean? Without citing any specific MILSPECs, the phrase is mostly a vague marketing term meant to imply that the product is ruggedized and survivable in extreme operating conditions. With that said, build quality on this BlueFire is excellent, with a high-quality aluminum housing that's rugged, strong, and handsome. You can use it to bash a window for emergency egress, or strike an attacker for self-defense. When shined in the eyes of an attacker, it will temporarily blind and daze your assailant. The tailcap screws off to hold an 18650 battery and a double set of rubber O-rings seal out water. There's no wasted space of any kind, making the flashlight very compact. It has a good amount of heft to it that makes it feel really solid in the hand. The strap is nicely made, with a spring-loaded button that lets you adjust the loop diameter so you can secure it around your wrist.
One Ultrafire rechargeable 3.7V 18650 3000 mAh Rechargeable Battery is included, along with a charging cradle. The charger is somewhat bulky and hollow, and only charges 1 battery at a time. You may want to stock up and keep some extra batteries charged for emergencies. One of the mode flashes S-O-S in Morse Code.
Light coverage and throw are excellent, as you might expect from CREE. Shining the flashlight at my kitchen from 25 ft away, the BlueFire lights up my entire wall (about 15 ft across). As for throw, it's equally impressive, able to throw the light up a 10 story building no problem. The front of the tube does get very warm when in use.
