Offering a brief summary up front . . . for the money this is a very versatile assortment, the tools have excellent strength and finish, and it all comes in a better than average carry case. Now, for my more detailed (and rambling) review . . . .
I'm a senior citizen shade tree mechanic, and have some experience with tools and do-it-yourselfer mechanics tool sets such as this one. I'll comment in two parts - the quality, and then the assortment.
The Quality: I recall, as a pre-teen, "helping" my dad work on his race car. While handing him tools (he could have found them quicker without my help), I commented on a Craftsman wrench, at the time having been impressed by their current lifetime guarantee advertising campaign. My dad replied that the Craftsman was indeed a good strong tool, but then picked up a Snap-On wrench and explained that the highest quality hand tools are just as strong, but combine strength with a slim design which can reach into tough spots and consume less weight and bulk in a tool box. Not to mention the Snap-On wrench's aesthetic appeal, with it's polished mirror finish and smooth edges - it looks great, performs great, and feels great.
The look and feel of the tools in this Crescent set remind me of that conversation, and I find that they more resemble the Snap-On approach. Nice mirror finish (the wrenches and ratchet sets), no sharp edges, great feel, high strength. The ratchets have a comfortable contoured handle. The ratchet 72 tooth mechanism, although not the very best that I have handled, are very, very good. Nice light ratcheting resistance and a nice tight swing (5 degrees) between clicks. Just a wee bit of detectable play. Handy thumb lever for on/off (my favorite design choice). I noted that the ratchet handle lengths were a bit shorter than some of the other brands I own. I think I'm OK with that - they are long enough, and in many cases, shorter is better.
The combination wrenches in the set are on the short to average side, but acceptable for this type of set. Great feel and finish. Strong chrome-vanadium construction. The sockets/extensions have the same mirror finish and strength, and tout Crescent's "Surface Drive" design, which purports to mitigate rounding off of fasteners.
The tongue & groove pliers (commonly referred to as "Channelocks", after the original maker), are well executed and have a soft grip. The long nose pliers (commonly referred to as "needle-nose"), likewise.
I really like the large, smooth, semi-soft grips on the screwdrivers. Great grip and feel. I have had a few uses with these screwdrivers, and beside liking the feel, the tip strength seems to be excellent. No deformation so far. Except for one Torx bit, I haven't used any of the bit assortment yet. They are chrome-moly and should be fine. Ditto the hex key wrenches (often called allen wrenches). I've only had a couple of light uses (license plate bolts and such) and really haven't challenged them yet, so I don't know if they will tend to hang in there - or bend/strip/break off. They seem to be hardened steel w/ black oxide finish.
The oddball in the set is the 8" adjustable wrench (commonly referred to as a "Crescent" wrench, after the original manufacturer). The tool in the set is as shown on the product page, and although marked, "Heavy Duty", it strangely does not bear the Crescent name, and unlike the other finely finished tools in the set, this one has a crude cast finish. It does have a smooth thumbwheel action, nice tight clearances, and appears to be as good as about any of the competition, but I thought it strange that Crescent's traditional flagship product, in this case, isn't even a Crescent. Hmmmm. I suspect there is some legal restraint in play here. But the adjustable wrench offered will serve just fine. And the stated alloy steel will be rust proof.
My final note on quality concerns the case. I like it. My set arrived dumped on my porch by UPS - not known for gentle handling. When I opened, only the 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets were loose from their moorings. Everything else was still snapped into place. The snaps in this set are indeed very firm, but I think I like that better then having sockets dump out every time I open the case. I really like the tri-fold design. Besides closing up securely using 4 latches, the tri-fold can provide the option, when working in a tight space, of using less floor space by leaving one of the "wings" folded in. I also like that the integral handle is located on top, allowing the case to stand "vertically" - again consuming less floor space. And finally, I like that all of the hinges are real pivoting hinges. They operate smoothly and should last (I have a 12 year old Craftsman set. The hinges are just flex-plastic and the latches have long ago broken off after the plastic got tired of flexing).
The Assortment: Both SAE and Metric (a must nowadays). The only downside is that the max sizes offered in this set tend to top out slightly small in my opinion (it's all relative anyway). The largest SAE combination wrench is only a 5/8", the metric 15mm. The sockets are more generous and top out at 7/8" and 21 mm. I will concede that the inclusion of the adjustable wrench helps. This one will expand to up to 1". Many such sets do not include an adjustable wrench, but combining the one provided here with the socket sets can really provide some versatility.
Notwithstanding my downside comment on the limited max sizes, the small size assortment is unusually good. The smallest sockets start at a very tiny 4mm and 5/32. Big tool sizes cost much more than small ones, so juggle all the math as you will, but still . . . when I need SMALL to medium big, this is definitely the set I'll be pulling out.
1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive ratchet socket sets provide versatility. The 1/4" drive sockets are all 6-point. The 1/2" drive sockets are all 6-point. The 3/8" drive are all 12-point, EXCEPT for the deep-well sockets, which are 3/8" drive and are 6-point. Well thought-out, in my opinion. Minimizing the bulk in the set, but providing some muscular options for tough fasteners. There is an assortment of socket extensions, in all drive sizes, as well as a 3/8" to 1/4" F/M adapter. When you add all the possible combinations, along with the 1/4 drive adapter on the magnetic bit driver handle, there are a BUNCH of possible small to medium big size socket wrench combinations possible here.
Lots of hex keys, SAE & metric. From the teeny .035", .9mm (again, when you need really small, this is your go-to set) up through 1/4", 6mm.
40 piece bit set, with the magnetic drive handle. Super assortment. Phillips and straight blades, Torx (wide size range), Pozidriv, hex. Again, when I need a driver with one of the above applications, I'll be pulling out this set.
Screwdrivers - 2 assorted Phillips, 2 assorted straight.
Pliers - Good 8" tongue & groove, and good 8" long nose (with wire cutter).
And an 8" adjustable wrench.
The tools do not display a country of manufacture, except for the adjustable wrench, which says, China. The box says, Made in Taiwan.
I've commented several times on the size, but in summary I'll just say that in those cases where you'll be working with fasteners larger than 7/8" (or 21mm), you'll be limited with this set. But those larger sizes are pretty rare around the home and in most automotive uses. On the other hand, the minimum size availability offered here goes all the way down to jewelry size applications. These tools are attractive and high quality, are of a very versatile selection (wrenches, pliers, bit sets, etc), and nicely encased. This is an excellent choice for a single set to keep in the closet, garage, boat, or vehicle.

Well, I'll start by saying that if you compare this set to Snap-On, Mac, Matco, and other professional quality tools it will come up short. However, it must be noted that this set is NOT trying to compete with those tools.
This is a tool set for the homeowner and DIY type. It's got a great mix of SAE and Metric tools. The combination wrenches definitely are short, but bear in mind if they were longer it would be hard to fit them in a compact case like this. About half the sockets are 12 point which is nice because it allows greater versatility, roughly the other half are 6 point. The ratchets are 72 tooth and I'll admit they sound a little rough, but again, these aren't Snap-On 80 tooth ratchets (which cost as much as this whole set). The Allen wrenches offer a good verity of sizes, but I wonder how well they will hold up as most tend to bend. Screwdrivers are good quality with a comfortable grip and well made points. The included bit tips and driver mean you can tackle a lot of screws without forty screwdrivers. The adjustable wrench is OK, nothing stellar. The needle nose and channel lock pliers are of good quality.
Now I will admit the fit and finish on some of the tools are a bit lacking, but for the price I can't complain really. The adjustable wrench is definitely not US made Crescent quality, but it'll work fine. The tools fit tightly into the case so nothing will fall out, though as another review noted, some are held a bit too tight. The case really rounds out this great set as it allows everything to be stored in one neat and compact unit. It'll easily fit in a closet or even a large drawer so if you want to keep it inside the house close at hand instead of the garage you can.
Tools are made in China and Taiwan, and in my opinion will last many, many years if not abused. Again, this isn't intended for a professional mechanic or even a "Tim Taylor" type tool lover, but for the average DIY homeowner it's a great set of tools at a great price. Highly recommended.
UPDATE 12-7-14:
I wanted to write an update about this tool set. I have put it to quite a lot of use around the house, and like it even more than I did at first. The assortment of tools makes this set very versatile and just one of those things I always seem to grab. All the tools have held up well except for a couple of the smaller Allen wrenches, but this is not unique to this tool set, these smaller sized Allen wrenches always seem to bend with use (tips are fine though). I've looked at other tool sets on Amazon and in stores, and I still think this one is the best due to it's assortment of tools and the quality and value. Very impressed honestly.

This is the last took kit you'll ever need to buy. I have owned the prior version of this tool kit for several years and I have been extremely happy with it. I've been keeping it at my office a lot, so I decided to get a second tool kit for home. This took kit is awesome! I have literally never needed another tool after getting this. I've used it to work on my bikes, cars, assemble furniture, install a big screen TV on the wall, and to do general household repairs.
The new version is an improvement on the old one. The case and snaps seem more sturdy. The graphics are updated and nicer looking. It is also an incredible value. For a hundred bucks you have everything you need. I will be purchasing another one for each of my adult children as Christmas presents!

Years ago I had quite a tool collection with some name brand ratchets and sockets. I had a triumph TR4 sports car. Then later on I got a couple of ultralight airplanes and quads and even a VW Bus. These things take constant tweaking and fiddling. Then lately I cudnt find an 11MM socket when I needed it and a few other things were missing. I can't blame anybody cuz sometimes they turn up. So, just recently I purchased another aircraft, this one is a Rans S-14 and I got me a hanger at the small country airport.
Well, I sure didn't want to take my huge collection of tools with a few essential ones missing. Cuz I need tools at the house to work on the Harley, lawn mowers, weed whacker, bicycles and change oil on the vehicles, etc.. So what did I do? Haha, I ordered this Cresent set from Amazon.
I really wasn't expecting much because of the price. I'm surprised, they are really nice, perfect to leave in my hanger to use when I need them. The hangers lock up but if somebody like a Gremlin perhaps, grabbed these tools it wudnt be a financial blow.
Anyway back to the tools, the sockets are heavy and chrome, the ratchets are very nice, screwdrivers are very nice as is the needle nose pliers and channel locks. The Cresent wrench seems a bit funky but adequate, I like the full assortment of metric and American hex wrenches and torque bits.
I was also surprised how big the case is and its heavy. I read several complaints on the case being cheap, I think it's just fine, what do you expect for 99 buks? I'm just a weekend mechanic, but, I know good tools, & these are keepers.

Bought this for my husband, he called me at work said return it cause it was ' worth the price, when I got home I noticed he never even opened it so I opened it, I'm a mechanic at Boeing and we use snap on tools I hafe to tell you if I did't see the brand I would have thought these where snapon tools I showed my husband the opened set and once he saw them he wanted the set. He judged on brand first, but I feel these are very good tools for the price I pd.

For someone like me; someone who is not a professional mechanic, builder or particularly good at fixing and building things, this set of diverse tools is absolutely ideal. As a matter of fact, as chance would have it, this is my second set of this particular tool kit – I was delighted with the first and am extra delighted to have a second set.
Now despite what I said above, we do live in the country – actually out in the woods, and I do a lot of my own home repair. I also love to purchase old trashed out lawnmowers and such and attempt to make them run again. I also have barns and sheds to maintain along with relatively small building projects. I do have a rather large works shop out back with many, many tools that I have gathered and collected over the years. And that is the first part of my problem which this set has helped resolved. My wife does not like my tools cluttering up the house. Nothing is more aggravating to have to make continual trips to my sheds or barn to retrieve tools I need in the house. I am constantly forgetting this and than and the simply act of hanging a picture or fixing a leaky faucet usually involves two or three trips out back.
With this tool kit, along with a small hammer, small drill and small saw and a couple of pipe wrenches, it pretty well takes care of anything that immediately needs done in the home. Due to the compact storage unit these tools are stored in it takes up very little room and almost anything I need in quite handy....Happy me, happy wife. Life is good.
The tools in this kit are very nicely crafted; to the point of being impressive when you consider the relatively low cost of this kit. I grant you that if I were actually making a living as a mechanic I would insist of professional grade tools, but as I do not ever intend to make my living as such (I have not the skill or knowledge), these tools are more than adequate to meet my needs.
Now others have pointed out that there is a limit to the range of size on the wrenches. If you need a very , very large wrench or socket, then you need to look elsewhere. That being said though, in my case this set meets at least 95 percent of all my needs. When I need a really large wrench...well, that is just the breaks of the game and I must trudge to the tool shed. Fortunately that does not happen all that much.
The case this set is housed in is extremely well build and heavy duty. This brings up a complaint, if complaint it is. that the pieces of this set do require some effort to remove and replace. These puppies are fastened in their place very, very well! For me this is a plus. Over the years I have collected many such wench sets and one of the biggest problems I have had is the pieces always fall out; sometimes almost magically it seems. This causes pieces to eventually go missing. I must have over a dozen sets such as this with bits missing in each and everyone of them and when I do open them it is like trying to find a special worm in a can of worms they are so mixed. There is little chance of this happening with this set. You can actually drop this thing (so I found out) from a waste high position and all to most of the tools will stay put.
Now as I have two sets, one will remain here in the house and the other will go under the seat of one of our cars. I fully expect I will purchase yet another for our other car. This set is ideal for traveling and does not take up that much space under the seat.
As an added note, I am extremely impressed with the selection and quality of the screwdrivers and hex drivers in this set. They are quality tools and should last years and years if not abused. The actually adjustable wrench is well balanced and has very little play. The adjustable pliers are quite well made and of equal quality to some more expensive ones I own.
For home use and working on small engines (On a limited basis) I cannot see how a person could go wrong using this as a basic set and adding specialty tools as needed. I am quite pleased.

Very nice! For the money this is a really decent set of tools. I used to work in building engineering. I worked on chillers, boilers, pumps, motors, air handlers. My company bought Crescent tools exclusively, so I was familiar with the brand. They're a really good balance of cost/functionality. Not the best, but they're a solid performer in the field. The ratchet is always the weakest link in these sets. Only time will tell how these hold up. But upon inspection, these have a great feel. Very solid. Nice action. No rattles. It was a toss-up between this set and the STANLEY STMT73795 Mixed Tool Set, 210-Piece at the same price. I feel very good about this purchase. I'll probably go ahead and get the STANLEY STMT73795 Mixed Tool Set, 210-Piece just to write a comparison. Buy these with confidence though!!!

I was a professional mechanic for more than 40 years,
in that time I spent enough money on tools to make a grown man cry
for most of those years I packed along a 200 pound tool chest
in whatever vehicle I was driving, and rarely did I NEED a tool I didn't have with me.
BUT
that big tool chest is hard on vehicles, and hard on my back when I needed to swap to a different vehicle.
this set does not have everything you will ever need in it, but they made a good attempt to
get all the more commonly needed stuff in the box.
the box holds the tools securely in place, so you don't open the cover to find a jumble of tools in the box.
the tools are not highly polished like the expensive brands, but polish doesn't turn the bolts,
AND this set doesn't cost nearly as much as putting together a similar set of the highly polished tools.
For working on a mower, or tiller, or snow blower, or for minor vehicle repairs, I give this set a solid 5 out of 5 stars

Not a tool kit for the mechanic in the house but a good tool kit to take on the road. This has all your basic necessities for easy repairs. Also a good kit to put in an RV for the just in case moments.

It is a great tool set to do most non-professional car repair/maintenance.
Got everything I needed for a good price.
Haven't found a defective piece yet.
It is even cheaper than the last version and comes with a more rigid case too. Never bought the last version, but from their reviews it seem that they have problems with the case. I don't see such a problem for this case. The pieces are held very tightly by the case and definitely don't fall out anymore.
The only problem is that they are held a little too tight now. For most big pieces, this is not a problem. But for smaller ones, like the arrays of screwdriver bits, it takes a little more effort than necessary to take it out. Not a big deal, so I still gave 5 stars.
