14 Piece Type D ColorConnex(R) Set Red Anodized2 each sleeve FNPT & MNPT coupler, 4 each FNPT & 6 each MNPT plug The ColorConnex(R) patented color code system allows for easy, color-to-color matching of couplers and plugs among the standard pneumatic interchanges. It also solves the problem of potential crossing and contaminating of different air lines. By using color to dedicate your different air lines, a lubricated line will never be used for a dry line application as long as your couplers and plugs match. o Match coupler and plug types o Dedicate hose applications Specifications: Color: Red Series: 1/4 in. Excellent color coded connectors for use with a new Makita MAC700 big bore air compressor. A few things to know however:
1. You must also buy pipe tape (a.k.a. teflon tape, blue or yellow kind doesn't matter) 1/2" x 260" Teflon Pipe Thread Seal Tape or pipe dope to apply to the threads before sealing this to the rubber hose you're using. Otherwise you will bleed air. This is for ALL connectors not just Legacy Connex. Funny how few connector reviews mention this.
2. The Legacy Connex couplers use a much larger wrench size than the plugs. I actually didn't have a big enough wrench to use on the couplers so I ended up having to use a vise grip with terry cloth towels to minimize scuffing of the metal. Not a deal breaker just didn't have it in my standard metric wrench set.
Convenience of the quick connects make this a must have for swapping out air tools quickly. the red paint is so pretty that you'll end up being super gentle with the hose to minimize scratches (i.e. no careless dropping of an unattached hose on the garage floor with these on).
Would definitely buy these again.
4/10/13 Update: Have had an extended period to run my Makita air compressor with these connectors and these have been absolutely fantastic. Quick attach, quick detach, super pleased at how well these have held up. If you need to plug/unplug air compressor accessories often, do yourself a favor and get these to speed up your down time.

In my younger days, working as a trailer mechanic, using air tools was an every day event. The sound of air hissing away from someone using a leaking air line meant the mechanic using the line was either a rookie or not too bright. lol
I've used 3 nipples and 1 quick connect from the package so far and no "hiss" whatsoever.
Wrap pipe tape around the threads;3 even layers will do nicely. Carefully thread the nipple or quick connect to it's opposing male/female counterpart and tighten, but not so tight your face is red and veins are popping.
This is a quality product at a fair price. I recommend without reservation.

The red anodizing is a bit bling for my tastes, but it prevents corrosion and in theory it allows for a quick visual color coded identification if you have different gases or fluids. The anodizing also provides a hard slick surface for the quick connection fittings. It feels weird to have lightweight aluminum where I'm accustomed to steel or brass, but so far, so good. There have been no leaks and these fittings go together easily. I'm not sure I'd trust the aluminum threads to a lot of screwing and unscrewing or other abuse, but I generally only use the threaded end once, and the quick disconnect end hundreds or thousands of times. So far, these are the best inexpensive quick disconnect air fittings I've ever used.

I have used these for just over a year now and have had not problems with them. I am surprised at the number of people who have left poor reviews on these. A large majority of the complaints I see are people complaining that these fittings leak. I use Teflon tape on all my air fittings and have not had a single problem with these.

The connection aspects of these "couplers" is consistent with the quality and function of many other pneumatic couplers. The real plus is the color coded housing. I have now converted over to all red Legacy Brand couplers on my various pneumatic tools and hoses. These red ones are type "D". I no longer have to deal with couplers that don't mate up correctly.
The only thing I would do differently since I bought these is to buy all "Push to connect" styles on the female side. They cost more and are bulkier but often my hands are full of stuff and it would be nicer to be able to use just one hand and force the male coupler into the female coupler without first having to pull back the red ring. But I am still pleased that I now, at a glance, see if a tool has the red anodized coupler and, if so, then I don't worry if it is going to mate up with my compressor hose.
It is often the little things on a job that, when added up over the day, make the difference between feeling in charge or feeling smacked down --- with time wasted and recovery effort demanded when you should be working on the problem not on fixing tools. My dad used to spray paint things like this including all his tool handles with "his" color. One glance and he knew it was the right part or the right tool He was way ahead of his time. Before you choose "red" couplers you may want to go to the LEGACY CO. website and make sure that the product family described is consistent with your needs. They have other colors for other families. This is type D.

Almost didn't get these because of some of the reviews. I found that in this case some people just want to bitch about something. I have been using these for home use now for a couple of months with various tools. They have worked very well and exactly how I would want them to. I have not had any of the issues I have read about in other reviews. They fit snug and I don't have any air leak issues at all. Very happy with my purchase.

Purchased the 7 piece connector set to add some new air tools to my garage. They have held up well and function as they should. I have used them with up to 120 psi with no problems. I have a hose reel and drag the coupler on the ground as I wind up my hose. Some of the red color has been scraped up but the coupler still functions like it was new.

The male plugs went right into my compressor's stock quick connect. These are easy to use and seem to stand up well.

Perfect solution to off the shelf compressor. I had a mix of hoses and couplers for a combination of tools and two compressors. Although the connectors looked the same, they were not interchangeable. Bought this, replaced one part on one compressor both ends of one hose and one tool connector and everything's compatible. This turned out to be the exact mix of parts I needed. They're much easier to connect/disconnect.

Excellent set of fittings. Fitment is excellent. All my other fittings were worn out so this was a great replacement set. This is for light duty use. I wouldn't recommend these for industrial use as the male fittings are aluminum and will wear out quickly and or break easily.
