I purchased this planer to help some friends work on a special project involving smoothing out some spruce log siding. This planer is quiet, smooth, shaves off soft woods like butter. Absolutely no issues, I was completely impressed. The storage bag is a bit undersized but not really a problem. Highly recommended.

I've owned and used several different hand planers over decades in the construction trades.
This one works fine at a good price- I used it for a while, then bought a second one.
The left/right chip ejector is much better than Bosch's. The light weight is a plus for most uses. Handle size better than Hitachi's.
I installed a 20' cord, & removed the stand-off block from the shoe.

Thought there would be issues with this. I've always resisted the purchase because of the expense vs. use of a power planer. When I found this for $70 I thought I'd give it a shot. I was installing new doors in an old (very un-square) house. This tool took hours off of hand planing and was super comfortable to operate. Easily performed as well or better than $200 makita's and DeWalts I've borrowed in the past.

Recently used my new Porter-Cable Planer to create some log benches for my vacation home. Works wonderfully and no problem getting it set up. It is relatively light but very powerful and its weight means that less fatigue in its use. I don't know the longevity of the blades as I haven't used it that much. Do like it a lot.

I've used this planer on a few boards that are a part of twin beds I'm building for my kids. Nothing more than cheapo, rough cut 2x4s and 2x6s are being used for the frame. This planer has all the power and quality needed to smooth the boards out and plane them down for those tight fitting joints in my design. I was a bit worried about how it would perform and handle the many knots in the boards, but quickly found that they were no issue at all.
I've been getting smooth level cuts with this planer every time. I also use a shop vac attached to the dust exhaust on the side....it makes a HUGE difference in the amount of particle mess left on the floor. Even with the tiny dust/chip collector bag that comes with this planer, a shop vac attachment is like night and day.
If you're looking for a decent quality hand planer to mill down smaller boards, or for other home use applications, this is a good way to go. It should also be noted that Amazon is about $4 more expensive than the big box hardware stores.

Used it several times. I could not believe the cheap price. That is why I got it. I have used Dewalt and other planners. Nothing wrong with this one. I kind of like it. I like the feature of being able to change the direction of the discharge, so it does not blow in your face. I think this is a good product.

I've had absolutely no problem with this tool. It is powerful & precise in performance. The ergonomics is great with both grip and clearance for the operators hand over& under handle....my only regret is that I did not purchase this when it was offered with the hard case and it came with extra set of blades. I store it in one of the modular system tool boxes that's in my Rigid roll away group. A cloth bag with absolutely no plastic or reinforced bottom is no way to store & transport any quality tool. If think this tool excels in quality considering the cost.

Bought a factory reconditioned unit and used it for several hours the first day it arrived with entirely satisfactory results. It is one sweet little package. Regrettably I don't think Porter-Cable still makes it. It was marked as "No longer available" on the P-C web site. Hope I can get replacement blades when/if I need them.

A nice alternative to manual planing - ergonomic, *really fast*, leaves a smooth finish, and cheaper than many good hand planes to begin with. Also a great dust-free alternative to more aggressive sanding jobs, especially when removing old finishes, fitting doors, etc. It takes some practice to use the tool correctly - there is a particular technique to engage and disengage the workpiece, and if you don't follow it, you will end up with *serious* gouging in the blink of an eye - but watch some Youtube videos, practice for 2-3 minutes on scrap wood, and you should be all set.
The motor is relatively noisy (louder than my 7 1/2" circular saw, but nothing awful), but the cutting process itself doesn't make that much noise. Dust extraction works very well, and the ability to toggle chip direction is a nice gimmick. Really, if you ever felt sore after a session with a hand plane or a sander, you should get this tool - it's a real bargain, given the quality of this unit and the results it can give.

This planer is rugged and works well; adjustments seem precise and results have been good - not too heavy and easy to balance when edge planning.
