I live in a decent sized city of over 100,000. I can't find UV lights anywhere. I picked this light up after watching a youtube video about it. My main reason for getting this is to find the source of the pee smell in the kids bathroom and kids bedroom. I had cleaned the carpets and cleaned the bathroom but until you get a blacklight or UV light in this case, there is no way in hell you are getting anything clean like you think you are. Period. End of story for that.

I will say that I have used the 2 ft long blacklight fluorescent fixtures that plug in the wall but those are a pain to use and the bulbs are exposed which makes them easy to break. The also dont give off the concentrated beam of light that this flashlight does. They are also not portable.

After cleaning all the pee in the bathroom that was visible with this light it is smell free like a bathroom should be.

This is not a light you play with. This is not a light you let your kids play with. My understanding is that this UV light can do some serious damage to your eyes if you stare at it.

I would greatly recommend getting a pair of yellow tinted type safety glasses that block UV light. This will enable you to use the light without worrying it will damage your eyes but better yet, the yellow glasses really do cut out the purple light that can make you dizzy. The purple light can also interfere with finding stains so with the glasses on the things you are looking for really stand out. I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a few pair of their cheap $2 yellow safety glasses and I did the drivers license test. No UV light went through the cheap glasses to make my license light up. I was surprised. And they make a big difference.

I received this product free for review but as always, despite receiving a free product I'm perfectly candid in my review. My observations follow below in more or less chronological order.

* Using this device for about 5 minutes is about the most horrifying experience that a person can have in their home.

* It picks up dust, nylon threads, any dried water marks (even from hard water) and of course remnants of urine from any species.

* Runs on three AAA batteries and operates simply with a button on the end of the light

* Has a wrist strap in the event you want to carry this around the house and gross yourself out from time to time

* Brighter than others I've seen and very fairly focused output

PS: I hope my review was helpful. If it was not, then please let me know what I left out that you’d want to know. I always aim to improve.

I actually been using this mainly as a counterfeit bill detector (my cats are very well behaved... that, and my mulched garden beds are their favorite places anyways - LOL). I occasionally sell refurbished laptops and Android devices at the local community markets, and as I result, I get lots of big bills. I have been using the typical strip pens, but I never liked them all that much. This thing quickly reveals the embedded security markings.

The $5 dollar bill should glow blue; the $10 bill should glow orange; the $20 bill should glow green; the $50 bill should glow yellow; the $100 bill should glow pink.

Nice chunky, rugged construction, easy to find in my service pouches and can take the rolling around, bumping into other device tools. And, on a rare occasion that my mother suspects her own dog being naughty, a good way to prove (or vindicate) the dog's culpability. Heh.

-- I received this as a complimentary review product with the aim of hopefully elucidating features and drawbacks that may help you ultimately decide what fits your needs and budget best

I bought it to hunt scorpions in Hillcountry and protect the kids from inevitable pain of a sting. Prior to having this light I had four kills under my belt during the vacation. My first night out with this light I got 23 of those little devils. Total kill count was 35 by the time I left. My family started to refer to me as the Scorpion King. I considered getting a tattoo of a Scorpion on my face with the kill count tally marks alongside. Ultimately I decided against the tattoo for fear of scaring the kids but I do love this tool of death and look forward to future hunts.

This handheld UV light is well built, inexpensive, and effective. As other reviewers have already stated, it clearly shows urine stains, invisible food stains on the floor and table, and UV-sensitive markings on currency and official identification cards, including passports.

It's also a very nice alternative to the $350 Benton UV lights used in hospitals and doctor's offices for eye examinations. As a hospital employee, I compared the two side by side. The handheld light is brighter, shows fluorescein staining more clearly, and is much easier to handle than the traditional larger weaker UV magnifier light. The first photo with the larger handheld UV light shows gauze stained with fluorescent ocular dye (fluorescein) being lit up with the more expensive UV light. Compared to the second and third photos, which show the fluorescein-stained gauze being lit up with the TaoTronics UV light, the fluorescence is much brighter with the TaoTronics. Indeed, the photos are a bit muted and the reality shows an even larger contrast between the two UV lights. The TaoTronics UV light is so bright that shining the beam to the side of the gauze (photo 3) still results in more fluorescence than shining the older larger UV light directly on the gauze.

The final photo shows a model patient with fluorescein placed in her left eye. Without need of a dim room, I could clearly see the fluorescence in her left eye compared to lack of it in her right. This is ample evidence that this inexpensive handheld light could be used instead of the more expensive one for many of our eye exams.

A very useful pocket-sized piece of technology.

Uh puke. This is a GREAT product. It works really well. Too well. After using this, I'm grossed out to walk barefoot. Check out my photo!!! I have a dog and a toddler. The 2 of them make quite the messy pair. My husband and I diligently clean every time there is a mess. But after using this, it's obvious where we still need to clean. What I've noticed is that where I used Nature's Miracle, there are no more pee spots or spots where my toddler's Sippy cup spilled. But where we used carpet cleaner like Resolve, the spot still lights up. Conclusion: Nature's Miracle works better than I thought it did, and we're living in filth. ;)

Well, this was my first and only UV LED Flashlight. After reading up on it online, I decided to pick one up and compare it. I had previously owned only 2 standard 6 LED and 9 LED Flashlights that I picked up from Home Depot and Harbor Freight respectively. In the pictures attached, the TaoTronics model is in the middle, the Harbor Freight is on the left and the Husky (Home Depot brand) is on the right in the side-by-side picture (#1). Picture #2 & 3 is the output of the 9-LED Flashlight from Harbor Freight, Picture #4 and #5 is for the Husky 6-LED Flashlight. Finally, pictures #6, 7, 8 and 9 are the TaoTronics 12-LED UV model I am reviewing.

This TaoTronics model has 12 LEDs, so it is very bright, but since it is UV, it's obviously a Purple/Blue-ish hue designed for detecting Pet Stains, Saliva, Urine, Blood, and a lot of other biological fluids. My aunt has 3 dogs, so on the weekend, I took this over to her house and wow... I was shocked at how many places the dogs had urinated or defecated on her carpets. Truly disgusting. The UV light was easily able to detect it once there was a low-light situation. I don't think I'll ever look at those dogs the same after I found all of this out. I suppose you could say the same if you went and examined a person's bed who you thought was clean and found all sorts of "special" stains on their sheets.

Long story short, the light works as described, hence the 5-Star Rating! Just be careful what you are testing and make sure that it is someone that you don't want to change your opinion of. Also, it's too bad that this UV Light can't identify the bad dog who repeatedly keeps going inside the house despite being let out multiple times. haha

Very bright, even in a bit really dark room it makes lint on my beige carpet light up extremely well. Because this is 390-410nm it's not the greatest for most rock collecting. Most rocks fluoresce under shortwave (254nm), and while some rocks fluoresce under longwave, longwave for rock collectors is 365nm.

This does trigger phosphoresces in some of my rocks. It also charged up the luminescent markers on my wristwatch.

The manual states this won't work on the newer USA $100 bills.

I have a forty dollar dual short and long (254nm and 375nm) rock collecting UV light that works MUCH better (for rocks) but isn't as bright.

My purpose in getting this was to be able to shine it outside at night without having to bend down while looking for glowing rocks. This would be bright but the wrong frequency for that, however: it's perfect for quickly scanning the road for halite crystals. I live in Michigan and they drop salt on our roads in winter, sometimes to can find awesome huge salt halite crystals but with the snow outside and the street lamps my good uv light is way too dim so I'd have to crawl on my hands and knees holding my other UV light two inches off the ground IN THE MIDDLE OF AN ICY ROAD! Forget that, this thing will have to do. You can shine it while standing up and see all sorts of horrible things on your carpet, bathroom, etc.

It's a tradeoff: brighter usually means more non-uv light leaking out.

BEFORE YOU SHINE IT IN YOUR BATHROOM, just get the mop and bucket out first because that's how it's going to end up. I'm a neat freak and into order (I'm a librarian) but let's just say after using I'm my main bath... well... It almost ended in tears. Lol.

Mine came with 3 real Duracell batteries.

It's not as good as my other uv light, but it cost 75% less and it seems like you could drop it and it won't break, unlike my rectangular one that has a fancy glass filter along one side and an exposed bulb on the other.

I can also light up the ceiling without being on a ladder...but now I'm climbing on a ladder to clean the ceiling.

Great quality, robust, bright, fun, you might want to burn your house down rather than go in your bathroom ever again, cheap!

A little too long a longwave for rock hunting. Won't work on newer $100 bills.

I'm using this way more than my "pro" dual rock hunter one.

I was a little skeptical when buying this but it was inexpensive enough that I thought I would take a chance on it. I am glad I did! The light comes with the needed batteries so I was able to put it to immediate use. Just beware that you may discover things you may not want to see! We have a small dog that we discovered had been very active on one of our carpets! We shampooed the rug after seeing all of the areas and then rechecked with the light and all areas no longer showed up! This was a great purchase!
