I was not surprised that I was happy with this product. I have used Unger's equipment for professional window cleaning for years and was very satisfied. Although this product is made for picking up trash without having to bend down to pick it up I purchased it for a different reason. Fortunately, I was able to try the Pro model before buying this one. The only difference I found between the pro and this one is that the pro is made with a steel shaft and is different colors. Since I was borrowing it I wanted my own. This one has an aluminum shaft, I assume to cut down on weight and resulting fatigue from using it for long periods.
I purchased this item because I injured my leg and needed something that would help me do things quicker. You can grip items as strong as you like or as easy as you like. I've picked up full 1 liter nalgene bottles with it and I've picked up a dime off a concrete surface. It also has a fairly mild (yet effective) magenet on one of the pinchers to help pick up metal items like paperclips and safety pins. I routinely used it to grab sets of keys off of a board where the keys were hung on hooks as part of my job without having to get out of my chair.
This is a very diversely useful product and it seems to be quite durable. You'll not that it also has a little hole on the handle in order to hang it on a hook or nail. I also got it really fast up here in Alaska.

I am seven months pregnant and I have toddler twins. So there is a lot of stuff on my floor, and I'm not able to easily pick it up! This is a great tool for picking up toys, books and such. Today I even used it to pick up a banana (very carefully). I also use it for tasks like removing laundry from the dryer. I love this thing. I could use one in every room.

I originally bought this too use after surgery to help me pack for a move, but have found it useful much later.
I purchased other grabbers before for my Nana, they always had the string from the trigger that pulled them closed. The perk to those kind was the magnet on the tip to pick up small objects, except the magnets always fell off and after a while the strings lost their tension.
This model was actually less expensive and much sleeker looking. The grips are rubberized so you can use it to reach tall shelves and even high lightbulbs without worrying about dropping as long as you get a good angle and maintain the correct amount of pressure.
If my Nana was still with me, I would buy her one of these in a heartbeat.

This is my all-time favorite grabber; I use it constantly for all kinds of things, and have for about six or seven months. I now have three of the Unger Nifty Nabbers, with two more on the way (for a total of five), and I have two of other models (about which I will write in a moment, including product links). The reason that I have so many (I am building up to one for each work area) is that I would not be able to carry anything else if I had my cane in one hand and the grabber in the other, and it is no good if it is not within a reasonable walking distance (or limping or hobbling distance, in my case). None of the ones I have now have shown any sign of wear, even when I accidently leaned on one with my full weight instead of my cane. The grabbers bent in terms of the angle to one another, but they were easy to bend back with my bare hands so that they again met when the handle was squeezed, as they did not bend where it counted.
The rubbery fingers on the tips are even great for giving the cat a good scratching when she decides to be coy without realizing that I can no longer go after her. She gets excited when she sees me pick it up, but the downside is that you have to pull off the bundle of cat fur before you can use the nabber again, since those angled textured rubber grippers really increase the grasping power. (If you are really crafty, here is an offbeat book on just what you can do with the fur you pull off: Crafting with Cat Hair: Cute Handicrafts to Make with Your Cat.)
There is an error in the description that no one apparently cares enough about to change. The SHAFT of the one I received is definitely anodized aluminum, while the HANDLE (advertised to be aluminum) is hard plastic. (During winter, an aluminum handle could be quite uncomfortable.) The head is angled at roughly 45 degrees, which makes it much easier on the wrist than those I have where the head is in line with the shaft. The angle also means that you can pick up something that has rolled a couple of inches under the edge of a desk or couch with the shaft still held vertically, so that you don't have to get down on the floor, as you do with the kind where the grasping portion is in line with the shaft. The squeeze mechanism doesn't require a huge amount of pressure, and the design of the handle makes it easy to hang over something relatively narrow, such as the shower door. (There is also a hole above the handle for hanging on a nail.) The squeezer on the handle is at right angles to the grasping portion, which places the hand/wrist in a more natural position when picking something up. (The others I have require an unnatural twisting of the wrist when grasping something.) I have had one hanging on the shower door for several months, and no part of it shows corrosion, although the paper label on the shaft is about done for.
Although this does have a magnet built into one of the graspers, it is frankly not a very good one; it would not even pick up my tiny embroidery scissors. I keep a telescoping rare-earth magnet to use for such things, since I found that trying to buy something that combines a grasper and a magnet leaves you with a product that is not very good in either category, such as Ez2care Alumium 30 Inch Reacher with Magnetic Tip and Ergo Handle. That one is not strong enough to pick up much of anything (it broke upon picking up a hand towel, the first thing I successfully picked up with the grasping portion), and the single claw will not close tightly enough to pick up lightweight things such as paper. The magnet will pick up embroidery scissors, but you can buy better extension magnets for less money, and which store compactly because of the telescoping feature. The single biggest difference between the Unger and the lower-quality graspers is the connecting mechanism between the handle and the grasping portion. On the Unger, it has a tight, springy feel, as though the connection is a metal cable. On the EZ2Care, it is a piece of nylon twine, with one end just tied to the handle mechanism. That means that when you squeeze, it stretches rather than grasps tightly. If you are ever judging graspers in person, compare the springiness of the handle mechanism. Cheap, stretchy connectors like synthetic twine mean you have to grasp much harder to exert the same force, and it may stretch out anyway.
The grasping portion of this is solid metal covered with textured rubber, compared with the other models that were 100% plastic, and it has superior strength and grasping power to those plastic models. Because a magnet sticks to it like glue, the grasping portion is definitely steel, and it is riveted (not screwed) in place. It is made in China, but the craftsmanship seems to be very good.
Overally, the ergonomic design of this grasper is the best of three I have tried, as the others have required twisting my hand/wrist into an awkward position to pick something up, risking sprain, and they also require more pressure to pick up the same object, or they don't pick it up at all. I intend to order several more of these, in order to keep one by each work area. This has really made my life much easier, since I could not pick up small objects off the floor after a serious back and leg injury. It is a godsend for my husband, too, since he does not have to pick up everything I drop any more; I can do it for myself.
In terms of both design and craftsmanship, I give this five stars. If it fails in some way in the future, I will revise this review to reflect that.

I volunteer in my town park's cleanup efforts and saw another volunteer with something similar to this pick-up tool. Bought this one and couldn't be more satisfied. Lightweight, constructed well for $20. Picks up everything from bottlecaps, straws, butts, to 2 litter bottles. Cut my time by 75% in this effort. For the price you can't go wrong. Still going strong after 40 hrs of use. I have another for in home use.

I have had two other grabbers before and this one rocks my world! I just got done with a heavy-duty abdominal surgery where bending is a challenge. This grabber has helped me keep my footing at times (not recommended as a cane, but I have leaned on it a little) and has reached places where other grabbers cannot go.
The construction is awesome and the accuracey (preciseness) of this grabber is fantastic. Would I trust it taking a jar off of a shelf? I don't think I would trust any grabber for that. This one is perfect reaching for that kleenex you dropped, keys, cell phone, whatever. It's really a nice grabber.
Highly recommended.

I love this grabber!!! It is very strong and very sturdy!!! I have used it daily since purchased 2 years ago. It is still working great!!! It is so very handy and much better than the grabbers they send you home with after knee replacement surgery. Do not hesitate to buy this grabber. I waited so long to post a review because I was sure I would break it somehow. Nope! I have had able-bodied adult friends remark on how useful it is! They want one too! A few times I did something to it that made the two sides of the claw not align correctly. It was very easy to bed back into shape!!! My 5yo and 3yo love it too! They use it to get things done from their closets or the pantry. The magnetic part works great, but is only on one side of the claw if that makes a difference to anyone. The only improvement I made was I added the soft part of velcro tape to the grabber and the hook part of the tape on my scooter so I could stick it to the scooter easily. Works great! You won't regret it.

I brought this so I can use it for dumpster diving and getting things from the top shelf of stores. This one is a little bit pricey than other grabber BUT its very durable and can lift heavy stuff.. The grabbing power is also something good for this.. some grabbers do grab but not tight and might fall on you.. this one is tight and is safe to get those things in hard to reach areas.
All in all, for its price... this grabber is perfect!

My wife and I are retired, every Summer for the last eight yrs. we've volunteered for the New Mexico State Parks system. Our jobs ranged from camp host to trail builder and our Nifty Nabber has been literally a back saver. Guest left trash as small as cigarette butts and as large as full long necks or quarts of beer. The Nabber handled both great.

P.S. Our purchases from Amazon from a 50 in. T.V. to a book for our Grandchild has always been a positive experance.

I have been totally disabled since 2003 and wheelchair confined since 2008. I found 1 of these grabbers at Home Depot in my town before they closed. I use this product 30 times a day for everything from getting goods from cabinets to helping with laundry. I have since bought 5 additional grabbers and placed them at various places around my home. I never have far to go to grab one and use it. I don't know what I would do without them anymore, the quality and design are top notch! I have never had one fail to work or break. I keep a 18" one in my wheelchair pocket behind me at all times in case I drop something when away from the house, ie keys or such! I would recommend this to anyone who has a need for a substantial grabber with heavy duty parts.
The only con is picking up very small jars or round objects, I have a hard time with these and have not found a good solution. Maybe a different style might work better for these items, but I have not found it.
