Designed for reliable performance year after year, the EZ406 includes five EZ456 cut-off wheels that last two times longer than fiberglass-reinforced cut-off wheels. They also lock in place quickly and are labeled for easy identification to ensure you have the right wheel for the job.
Versatile Design for Flexibility
This set gives you the flexibility and solid performance you need to complete a range of hobby, repair, and renovation tasks. Use the EZ406 to cut through metal conduit and PVC piping, re-slot screw heads, remove rusty nail heads, or tackle light demolition jobs. With the EZ406 you can also cut aluminum and power through nuts and bolts.
About Dremel: A History of Brilliance and Innovation
Founded in 1932 in Racine, Wisconsin, Dremel is the industry leader in rotary tools. The company owes its success to the inventive genius of its founder and namesake, Albert J. Dremel. In his lifetime, Mr. Dremel owned 55 patents on a wide range of products from electric erasers to a gas-powered rotary lawn mower. His most famous and important invention was a high-speed rotary tool, dubbed the Dremel Moto-Tool. Compact, lightweight, and perfect for a wide range of jobs, the rotary tool was an immediate hit with hobbyists and eventually became accepted as one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century. Today, the Dremel name remains synonymous with utility, durability, and innovation.

The EZ Lock mandrel is just what I have been looking for all these years. I've spent countless hours using my dremel to cut metal parts and the old grinding wheels would easily break apart. The replacement process was painful, requiring using a small set screw and a screw driver.

The EZ Lock mandrel can accept a variety of EZ Lock attachments such as polishing wheels, and more importantly, the cut-off wheels that are included in this starter kit. Essentially, the EZ Lock mandrel has a locking cam that requires you to insert the attachment and rotate it 90 degrees so that it fits into another pattern allowing you to secure it. This is a simple 1 second procedure that doesn't require any special tools. It is a true time saver for the hobbyist or gearhead that makes use of cutting wheels for projects.

The downside is the cutting wheel itself. The labeled surface is not very abrasive, so you can't use that side to grind stuff or smooth out surfaces. I know that cutting wheels are really intended to be used as cutting wheels, but I frequently use the wheels to smooth surfaces as well although you can use an abrasive bit to do the same job. The underside of the wheel (the dark side) is abrasive and can be used to sharpen/smooth out metal. The cutting wheels are larger, thicker, and more flexible than the cheap wheels that are the thickness of postage stamps. It is well worth the extra cost.

Pros: The EZ Lock mandrel is a true time saver, a MUST BUY for any dremel/rotary tool kit

Cons: ZERO - the mandrel is awesome!

Overall: 5/5 stars, absolute must buy for anyone that has a dremel/rotary tool

This system is infinitely better than the old cut-off disks that you had to screw into the end of the mandrel. The disks won't break like the cheap wafer cut-off disks, and are more durable than the fiberglass disks I used - where i would go through a half dozen disks, i now go through 1 or 2.

I use this mostly with a Proxxon IB/E Professional to cut off mild steel bolt ends, screws, etc. flush with surfaces. Usually these are in the 1/8" range or less. At this task it works great. I must have cut off 500 screw ends that extended through some flooring during a recent renovation project with one disk. I'm still on my first box of cut off wheels- they last a lot longer than the less expensive cut off disks. I've also used them on aluminum and cast iron with good effect.

The disks are easy to change with the quick change collar - just pull back the spring loaded collar, insert the disk, rotate 90 degrees, then release collar. Even the little plastic container is functional. I've had my EZ406 for several years now, and will never go back. This is one of Dremel/Bosch's finer ideas - Albert Dremel would be proud.

With patience, these will cut some serious metal. I used them to cut the frozen shock absorber bolts off of a truck. While I had to use 2 per bolt, they got the job done. I don't think I would have been successful with any other product due to the tight space I had to work through.

In making my own canteen cup stoves (using stainless steel canteen cups) I had been using the old reinforced wheels to cut out the slots I needed. I chewed through wheels quickly and found it to be expensive. I decided to give these wheels a whirl and am sure glad I did. I only used 5 of these cut-off wheels compared to the 15 reinforced wheels I used on the last stove. They cut great and last long! I only broke 1 wheel, which was my fault. You cannot force these too hard. Just let them cut at a gentle pace and you will do fine. Well worth the investment.

I was a bit skeptical that what appeared to be just thicker versions of standard Dremel cutoff wheels would do much against a bolt. I was wrong! Works great, we had a Dremel tool clone, but no uber bolt cutters or angle grinder, so this is in our rolling toolbox now with a battery powered Dremel clone! The quick change feature is nice, still a bit of a challenge but better than the tiny little screws on the arbor which are constantly dropping off the workbench when changing cut-off wheels!

Suggestion: use only with a plugged in Dremel tool or clone, not a battery powered one. I ran through two battery packs in 10 minutes of cutting and had another 10 minutes to go!

Pros:
+ works very well against hardened steel up to 1" diameter
+ comparable function to an angle grinder right down to the sparks flying all over the place! So make sure to wear protective clothing! Slower than an angle grinder as you would expect!
+ EZ lock is great compared to the wee little screws on the alternative Dremel cutoff wheel holders

Cons:
- not the fastest tool at cutting bolts, expect a minute or two for every 1/4" thickness up to about 1" thick
- EZ lock is still a bit of a challenge to change in the field

I've always hated when a cut off wheel would finally break or wear down and then you'd have to spend time unscrewing it and putting a new one on. This just clicks on and off, 5 seconds tops. The cut off wheels are just like the regular heavy duty cut off wheels, they cut through anything.

The other thing super nice about this is that you can use the EZ Lock adapter with other attachments. For example I also have a polishing wheel that locks right on this and is very secure. It's a big improvement over the older polishing wheels that had a course looking screw they'd go onto, they'd always end up stripping out where they connected before they wore out.

Unlike the more common cutting disks for Dremels, these wheels are durable and last. Most recently I used them to cut 1/2" rebar and they did a great job. My reciprocating saw with a nice new blade wasn't even making a dent trying to cut through so I figured I'd try this even though I thought it was too heavy of a job for the disk. I was very pleasantly surprised when it cut the rebar without breaking at all and it hardly shows any wear. I wish I found these a long time ago.

Worked great, and I didn't even use a real Dremel. I have a Chicago Rotary Tool and it worked fine. I used it to cut a 1/8" diameter nail that was sticking out of some crown moulding, so it was delicate work and of course no reciprocating saw was going to fit into that space. Slow and steady wins the race—if you push too hard or try to do it all at once your tool will probably die out; back off, take it in stages. It will work. Lots of sparks so make sure nothing flammable is hanging around. Great little cutter!

These cutting wheels are great. I use them with a black and decker rotary tool and it has gotten me out of a lot of trouble. They wear down just like anything else but not too bad. I also really like the locking part of the bit. It really secures the cutting disc and keeps it in place.

This pack is one of the most economical ways to purchase one of the most useful Dremel accessories (the EZ lock shaft)...and it comes in a handy compact storage case too. I use cut-off wheels for a wide variety of chores around the house, office and ranch.

Pros:
- The EZ Lock mechanism is very easy to use
- Accessories can be changed quickly and attachments are held securely
- Metal cutting disks do the job well
- Metal cutting disks can last longer than you expect (if used properly)

Cons:
- None
