(PS 2010--there is now a better attractant that attracts more kinds of mosquito. So this product is perhaps obsolete.)
Can be placed in any type of mosquito killer or catcher. Just place anywhere that the air flows around it. This is the best buy with Amazon free shipping. (Other suppliers will charge shipping for each small package. It adds up.)
This may be smaller than your original cartridges. However, no matter how big a cartridge is, it can not last much longer. It is better to buy the cheapest cartridge and replace it more often. And Flowtron is a name brand, not some unknown manufacturer.
I keep 2 of these cartridges in each mosquito trap, as follows. Twice a month, the oldest cartridge is thrown out, the other is moved to the back, and a new one is placed in the front. In my experience, Octenol may be more significant for catching the mosquitos than CO2, LED lights, UV lights, etc.
NOTE: please hold your breath from the moment you open the package--place your mosquito trap away from where you sit or work--use gloves or be very careful not to touch the chemically infused areas. I doubt that anyone knows the long term risks of octenol. The smell is noticably noxious, sort of like moth balls, and labeled as dangerous.

The Flowtron lamp doesn't work at all to get rid of the mosquitoes without these cartridges.
They're great!
Just make sure that you paste it so that the holes on the cartridge are exposed because my boyfriend did it the other way around and couldn't figure out why it didn't work until I got a closer look at it!

This really helps with the mosquito population around here. Before this, I couldn't even open my backdoor without a bunch flying inside!! You can tell by the photo, that there are tons of mosquitoes mixed in with other bugs.

We bought this mosquito trap which used these octenol cartridges(mosquito attractant).
I was constantly amazed at how effective the trap is. I was cleaning the machine twice a week so that it did not get too plugged.
We enjoyed a summer on our deck without mosquitoes.
I did follow the trap placement recommendations in the directions, which I am sure is crucial.
Anyway: Before the trap with attractant(early summer) we were being chased indoors from mosquitoes. After the trap, after a couple of weeks, I did not see any more mosquitoes.
I definitely recommend it if you live in the Sierra Nevada. It worked well for me at 4500 feet elevation level.

I was skeptical this would work to attract mosquitoes to the Flowtron bug zapper. After all, mosquitoes are primarily attracted to heat, CO2, and moisture - in other words bodies and their breathing. They care not one whit about lights, so I wasn't sure the Flowtron Octenol would do anything to pull mosquitoes in.
But the Octenol does work. It has to - there is nothing else about the Flowtron that would be of any interest to a mosquito. Yet, once a week when I use a small twig to clean off the electrified rails of bug parts, there is no shortage of clearly identifiable mosquitoes fried & stuck to the rails. The makers of Octenol claim that it mimics other scents in human breath that mosquitoes like; the proof of the pudding is stuck in my trap every week, so they made an empirical believer out of me.
Alas it only attracts the night-flying black mosquitoes where we live. I'm grateful for that, which is why I gave it 5 stars. And as final proof we can go out in our yard and on our deck and not be bothered by mosquitoes at night.
The daytime is another story however. We also have the day-flying Tiger mosquitoes around here, and clearly the Octenol is doing nothing for them as they bother us during the day. But the Octenol doesn't claim to attract Tiger mosquitoes which is why I'm not taking off any stars. Lurex is advertized to work on the Tiger mosquitoes; alas Flowtron doesn't sell the Lurex bait in a form factor compatible with their trap.
Nevertheless, I'll take mosquito-free evenings, and be grateful for that.
FYI I change out the Octenol cartridges once a month; that seems to work fine. They have a double-sided piece of sticky tape in each individually wrapped package, which you can use to mount the bait underneath the Flowtron trap.

This product works very well and for me, a person who has the consummate "come hither" scent to mosquito's, to say that is profound ... buy it, use it, it works.

Excellent! Don't open a pack in the presence of the very insects you want to attract. I did that and - whoops! I could barely see well enough to place them in the Flowtron. Also, managed to get a little of the chemical on one finger. Even after multiple washings, I had constant visitors for most of a day that were fascinated with my finger. Funny!

We live on 1/2 acre w/2 pools behind our house, so I purched the Flowtron Octenol Mosquito Attractant Cartridges for the Flowtron 80-Watt. This unit has performed wonderfully! Our family was tired of spraying w/a mosquito repellent just to go outside even for a brief moment w/out being swarmed by mosquitos so this was just what we needed. Best purchase for some relief. Higly Remommended!!

I use this in my in my two OUTXPRO 20W Electronic Bug Zapper Fly and Mosquito Kill Trap see photos to show it works on Central Florida Mosquito's. They grow weak after sixty days. While expensive when they are used less than sixty to seventy days old they are incredible. I replace every seventy days and find that while it might work longer I think the higher effectiveness this gives makes is worth the cost. I use them in devices one in my garage and one in my screen room. Yes the mosquito s do get into a screen room see photo which was shown after a one day period. Every time you open a door to go into the yard they swarm and some get in.

I think this company is watching the customer reviews, because they have modified almost every negative aspect that people have mentioned. They had two bags around the plastic attractant component, they have high quality double stick tape in there (a little smaller than I thought) , and this comes in a sealed box that has five holes, and you can just put the box right in your blue light. I read enough to know the length of time is about 2 weeks or so. And the it came with some minor instructions, but not really any advice that was as good as the comments, such as 'just hold your breath for a few seconds while you install with double stick tape under the light....' it doesn't give any good advice like that, only warnings about the toxicity. But so far the logistics are great. When I first installed I dont' see any increase in bugs going there.... so far.... but it has only been a few hours and it is raining. So I will add to the review later regarding potency
