You can look at the photos and see this is a great looking knife. The sharpened portion of the Blade from point to end is 4 & 1/4", 4 & 3/4"s overall. The total length of this knife is 9". I just purchased this knife 9/6/12 and I received a nice quality blade with a good coating on it, it came very sharp. Mine was not one of the one's people remarked looked like they were "Chinese crap". While this is a great knife for the price (or even double the price) It's not a 100 dollar blade. While it's weighted nicely I don't recommend throwing it. It's not a throwing knife and sooner or later you will probably end up with a broken blade. I carry mine on my hip I'm in S Fl so I don't wear boots often. To me it would be big for a boot knife anyway. This is a good personal defense knife and usable for daily cutting jobs that are not on the extreme side. For me it's one that looks cool (especially with the lanyard I made for it--> see photos) and it's a great addition to my knife collection. I'm buying a few more for friends...

First off you should know that this thing is built like a tank. The grip (though smallish) WANTS to be held and is coated with what feels like rubberized sandpaper. The blade faces are the same way and feel like sandpaper, but in a great way. The knife is totally blacked out except for the exposed honed edges. Comes out of the box sharp enough to make you nervous, and this is coming from a knife fetishist. Not some noob who buys from BudK and calls everything "razor sharp". Whole knife is balanced enough to throw in the "no spin" method up to about 8 feet without a second thought.
It is not razor sharp because it is not a razor. It is however, "dont eff around with me" sharp on both edges.
Sheath is solidly built of thick black leather and is easy to open by simply slamming the hand down over the button then pulling back up with the handle in your grip. Personally I'd like to have seen a Kydex one simply because the knife is so sharp that sometimes when sheathing the blade I can feel it cutting the leather at the bottom of the sheath. But the fit is secure and aside from irking me now and again it has served well enough.
Let it be known that this IS a boot knife. The clip on the sheath is not at the center off gravity so this cannot efficiently be worn on the belt as it will slump over. It is meant to be worn in the internal outside side of the boot. I wear mine with a pair of mil-spec Vibram combat boots and so far it has deployed without a hitch on the few times i have used it.
This knife has the potential to be an EDC workhorse without putting a demonstrative dent in your budget.
At 15 bucks, buy it.

This is definitely one of the best knifes I own, and I have a LOT. It is the perfect size and weight. It is very well balanced and throws well. It also has a nice sharp edge. The leather sheath is nice, I like the clip on the back instead of the belt loop. I sewed the one I bought onto my tactical vest so I'm going to buy another to carry on me. All I can say is, good job S&W.

This Smith & Wesson "Boot Knife" is a really nice, high quality knife. This is my second S&W knife, Smith & Wesson SWHRT7T HRT Tanto Boot Knife, Black (see my comparison pictures in "Customer Images") and, while I like that one, this one is even better.
The blade came fairly sharp and a few passes over my Smith's PP1 Pocket Pal Multifunction Sharpener made it near razor sharp. This has a double edge and a great looking black non-reflective coating.
The handle is somewhat thin, as expected on a Boot Knife, and feels very nice in the hand. There is a lanyard hole near the end of the grip as well.
The sheath is good quality leather with a metal clip for attaching it to a boot or even a belt (a little awkward due to how high the handle rides). The knife is held in place by a snap strap that can be easily released with your thumb (righties) or forefinger (lefties) as the knife is drawn.
Overall, this is much better than I expected and is also a great value. As others point out, check the laws in your area to be sure double edged knives are legal and that you can carry one concealed if you choose to do so.
Highly Recommended!

5 day of constant use. I leave it in my boot fits nicely with a short boot, would be even better with a longer boot. No problems yet.

Smith & Wesson Makes A Great Boot Knife!! Very Sharp out of the box.Thick leather sheath,Secure Snap!A very good Buy.

smith and wesson has made the perfect boot knife with amazing quality with such a low price. the knife was razor sharp right out of the box, its perfectly balanced and has an amazing natural feel in the hand no matter how you hold it. The blade is coated in a rust proof, non glare, rough texture finish that is extremely durable in all climates and conditions. I plan on buying a few of these and stashing them around just in case. i would highly recommend this knife to anyone who wants a quality backup bootknife that won't let you down.

Pros:
Small, concealable, storable. I keep it in the tank bag of my motorcycle.
Very solid feel to it, good weight distribution.
Came from the factory as sharp as I need it. Not too sharp, but good enough for self defense.
Cons:
I don't like the belt clip on the sheath. Wish there was some kind of a way to attach it more securely to things than just a spring belt clip.
